Maria Olympia Padilla, 83, a resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at Alta Vista Regional Hospital in Las Vegas.
She was born on May 27, 1929, in Tecolotito to the late Cleofes Fresquez and Rumaldita Castillo-Fresquez.
She was a Carmelita, a member of the Our Lady of Sorrows Prayer Group, she loved going to the Senior Citizens Center to visit with many friends including two very dear friends, Rita Trujillo and Dee Smith. She loved visiting people in the nursing homes, she liked cooking and going to the Flea Market, collecting "treasures" angels and dolls. Her hobbies were crocheting doilies and knitting afghans.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Cleofes and Rumaldita Castillo-Fresquez; brother: Cleofes Fresquez, Jr.; and two infants sisters.
She is survived by her husband: Adon Padilla of the family home; daughters: Theresa Aragon and husband Vidal of Las Vegas, Magdalena Marino of Albuquerque; son: Steve Padilla and wife Elvin of Idalou, Texas; brothers and sisters: Lucy Saiz and husband Herman, Rose Trujillo and husband Jose B., all of Las Vegas; Gregorio Fresquez and Eloisa Garcia of Las Vegas; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother-in-law: Robert Padilla and wife Petra of Gallinas; sisters-in-law: Emilia Ortega of Gallinas, Lilly Sanchez and husband Dan; four foster daughters, the Jaramillos; many nieces and nephews; and many friends and relatives.
Rosary services were conducted at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Friday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant. Interment will follow at Santo Niño de Atocha Cemetery in Gallinas.
Serving as casket bearers will be: Gerald Fresquez, Steven Padilla, Mike Padilla, Brian Morrow, Bobby Padilla, Charlie Otero, John Saiz and Vidal Aragon. Honorary bearers will be: Melvin Ortega, Bob Hansen and grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Patricia Prieto, Norma Lucero, Kathleen Sanders, Stephanie Montoya, Tristian Padilla, E.J. Padilla and Malachi Padilla.

I just heard of my dear cousins passing, my prayers are with all the family. Your mom, wife, and sister had a special place in my heart she always greeted me with a smile and a hug. I feel for you my dear, cousin Adon and all the familia.
