My uncle Fred. They didn't get any better. I was closer to him than any other extended family member. When I watched Koufax and Drysdale in the early 60s it was my uncle Fred who was sitting next to me and had taken me to the game. It was my uncle Fred who slid me my first beer. I've lost not only an uncle but a friend. He was an everyman philosopher, humorist, war hero, and consumer of life. The earth is a little more hollow without his presence.
