I was sorry to read about "Mike's" passing in the LA Times. I knew him at Garfield HS, W'57. It seems we had similar paths....Army in W. Germany, attending ELAC, UCLA ('65-'67). Easy going person...a cool dude. Later in life we met up at HS reunions and later after retiring met him at ELAC while taking a nite course. I enjoyed our chats of common interests and past experiences. A good guy. Mycondolences to his family.
Respectfully, Gil Almanzan

I didn't know John was called “Mike” because he was always known as John to me. I met John through his friendship with my former husband, Clay Felts, who was a fellow UCLA student of John's. Many a Friday night we spent having a few beers together, along with another good buddy Vigil. John had a wonderful sense of humor, and was a kind and gentle man. When I remember John I hear his soft chuckle, see his twinkling eyes, and smell that pipe he always seemed to have! He was a great and dear friend to Clay, and mine by association. He will be missed by many whose lives he touched and influenced. Condolences to his family.
