Dearest Glenn, Mike, and Laurie,
It is with great shock and sorrow that I was informed today (Sunday, November 24, 2013) of Mel's death. It's hard to describe the role he played in my life, and especially in Derv's life. He was our son Aaron's godfather. We were in your home so many times and watched you kids grow up. Somehow we lost touch as you all became adults and lived your lives in California while we were still here in Michigan--living a few blocks from your house in Ypsilanti. I would have wanted to be at the Memorial Service but didn't know anything about it at the time. I so sorry that I couldn't share that time with you all and with all who grieved and mourned his leaving us. Please know we loved your Dad more than words can express.

I was so lucky to have Mr. Suhd as a third grade teacher at Pepper Elementary. It was great to reconnect with him many years later with former classmates . R.I.P.

I am sorry to miss Mel's memorial, but as I look at the picture in this guest book, it reminds me of how very, very interested he was in everything, and how his enthusiasm was so contagious. That is how I will remember him - full of opinions, contradictions, and all-around zest.
