I was part of Artie Boyds "Baseball Family". Those who were fortunate enough to play for him were truly blessed. He coached a lot of the best baseball players in Southern California. My Brother was Jim Parks who played and pitched for Lakewood High Schools FIRST CIF CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM. One of the greatest moments for many on that team. I came along 6 years later, 1968, and played for Artie, his last year coaching at Lakewood H.S. He knew how to get the best out of his players. He will truly be missed by many.

I had Artie as my regular gym teacher at Lakewood High in the late 60s, and also taught with him in the social sciences department at Millikan in the late 70s. In all my years as an educator I never had another colleague who was more good spirited, friendly, or supportive. The only thing really wrong with American education today is that too few of our teachers are of his stripe.

I was lucky enough to have Coach Boyd for two years at Millikan High School 1980-81, before he retired. Coach Boyd was more than just my coach, he continued to be a life long mentor and friend. Now, as a baseball coach myself, I am able to pass down the life lessons Artie Boyd taught me. I can only hope that I can make the same impact on at least one player, just like Artie Boyd did for me and so many others.
All our thoughts are with the Boyd family.

Artie Boyd was a prince of a man, a good example of a wonderful family man, a dedicated educator and baseball coach, who greatly influenced so many young people. One, is my son, Andy Zinn. Mr. Boyd not only taught the "art" of baseball, but the art of living. He taught many valuable lessons on how to conduct yourself, not only on the baseball field, but how to live a life as an honorable, responsible, loving, caring GOOD man. It was an honor to know him. Our heartfelt condolences to his beautiful family....

I had Coach Boyd for PE in 1962 at Lakewood High School. I will always remember what an arm he had teaching us to throw out on the field at LHS. Condolences to family. A great teacher in deed who will be missed. Craig Chambers.

I had the pleasure to work with Artie at DeMille in the mid 1980's. He was an original and a great man. He will be missed.

Condolences to the entire Boyd family. A good man who affected many lives in such a positive way! Honored to have played baseball at Millikan High under his sincere leadership and direction. We've all lost a great man and coach. God bless Artie and his family.

Many outstanding memories growing up in the Long Beach baseball community, but tops on the list is getting the opportunity to sit behind home plate at Blair Field in the 80s/90s and talk baseball with Artie Boyd, Jack Graham, Roberto Macias, John Treece, Ray Griffin...guys who knew the game on a completely different level. All you had to do was ask, and these guys would talk baseball with you until they turned out the lights at Blair. Sad to see so many of these LB baseball legends leaving us. RIP Coach Boyd...thank you for taking the time to talk baseball with me.
