Ellen Ward Obituary

Former Signal Hill City Council woman Ellen Ward died Tuesday morning at her home after a long battle with several types of cancer, family members said. She was 78.
Ward was also extremely active in the local LGBT community, including founding AIDS Walk Long Beach in 1987. She served on the City Council for 12 years, including mayor for two years.
"Ellen loved her time on City Council," said Pat Crosby, who started dating Ward in 1994 and married her in 2008. "She was so interested in Signal Hill. She loved being a part of the process. She enjoyed all of it."
Signal Hill Mayor Larry Forester said Ward was "an outstanding civic leader and servant of the Signal Hill and LGBT community. She will be missed by all."

No one is really gone, as long as they live on in the memory of those, you have touched.
The warmth of your presence, the generosity of your heart, the tireless willingness and ability to help others.
You will be missed dearly, but continue to be loved.

Your life of public service will ever remain your legacy to us. Your heart was full of love for everyone, and you showed it in so many ways! I am in awe of your many contributions to our community; but mostly I'll miss your sweet face across the bridge table, eating the raisins out of the trail mix. RIP dear lady. We are all better people for having known you.

You saw the world as it should be...not as it was. You gave us a place to be. You had more fundraisers than I can count. You will be missed.
