Ken and Laura are greatly missed by their church family, Grace First Presbyterean Church of Long Beach. They were members here for more than 30 years, until health issues required them to move to Quaker Gardens for assistance. They were active in many ways and are missed by many.
Mrs. McKee was my fifth grade teacher in 1961-1962, and she is probably the reason I became a teacher myself. My fondest memories of her class include making bonnets to wear on our trek across the country and building covered wagons. She was an amazing teacher!
Laura McKee was my fifth grade teacher at Carver way back in 1963/1964 and remains to this day my favorite teacher of all time. We had a huge class of near 40 students, but she managed to do such amazing things with our class, without the benefit of any classroom aides. I loved her so much that I named my daughter Laura after her. My thoughts are with her family.
Everyone wanted to be in Mrs. McKee's room. I was so very happy to be one of the lucky ones. Unfortunately for our class, that was the year she had her daughter . There were lots of tears the day she made the announcement that it was her last day. She also lovingly mentioned her son who was in the military at the time ( if I remember correctly). Our classrooms loss was her families gain. Blessings to you all.
My aunt was one in a million. We just seemed to click. I will miss our visits together.
