May God Bless the Lance extended family in this time of sorrow. I knew and worked with Jerry for more than 30 years while I was at POST. I always admired and respected his ethics, judgment, and enjoyed his straightforward honesty.
Rest in Peace with God, my friend.

Bunny, Pam, Darren: We are so sorry for your loss and will really miss Jerry. Brings back memories of the SparkPlugs when he was the coach. I know that sports brought us together as life long friends. Be strong and remember how lucky you and us have been to have had him in our lives.

It was an honor to serve under Chief Lance. I remember the news conference when our officers Black & Delfin were ambushed, and I saw my Chief in tears and I cried, both for the incident, and because my Chief was not afraid to express his grief. I admired him. Eternal peace, sir,

Many happy memories with the family at Christmas time. I used to look up to my older 2nd cousins, Jerry, Pat, and Virginia who I thought the world of. He was always part of the Oberg's! He was my cousin . A very special man who loved, laughed and then left.

I worked with and for Chief Lance for 30 years. He was always fair and a man of great integrity and I considered him a friend. Our friendship goes back to when our young sons started playing soccer together. His heart was always with the LBPD and there wasn't anything he wouldn't do to make it a better place . You will always be remembered as a great cop and friend.
RIP The Fox family.

Ever played basketball with Chief Lance? He was one of the few leaders who 'fraternized' with the young officers at 10th/Pine; we got to see the competitor and spirit, and the times he was not 'reserved' with the occasional elbow. Will miss that 'greatly', prayers to the Lance family and THANK YOU for sharing him with us.

To the family of "Jerry".
My most heartfelt condolences to you all, at the passing of "Jerry". I was with him as a recruit and found him to be straight forward and very professional, along with being a very good Police Officer. I left LBPD in 1982 and was unable to see him advance to Chief. His passing is untimely, and surely a great burden on your hearts. May God be with you, and bless you.

Knew Jerry as a new officer when he worked on the graveyard shift early in his career. He was one of the most competent young officers I knew as a supervising sgt. RIP.

Jerry loved Long Beach PD and always challenged the employees to make things better. He had foresight and a vision that moved the department in new directions. He really had a kind heart and mentored many employees into leaders of the organization. Many became Chiefs. Thank you Chief for what you did for LBPD. You will be remembered.

Even when you disagreed with him, he never held a grudge. He was always quick with an encouraging word and I can still hear his laugh echoing down the hallway. Rest in peace. Commander (retired) LBPD

My memory of Chief Lance is the kindness, compassion, support and guidance he showed me when I returned to work after the death of my baby son. I felt so blessed, comfortable and safe knowing he was my commanding officer during such a difficult time. He was truly an incredible leader and man and made the world a better place.
My heartfelt sympathies and prayers go out to his family.
