When Mike visited Escondido schools, he always stopped by the lounge at recess and lunch so he could listen to the employees. He made teachers feel appreciated. Education lost a true leader.

Our deepest condolences to out to the Caston family and to those who loved Mike. Mike was an amazing leader and was among the very best school superintendents and educators. I know personally, what an inspiration and mentor he was to me and I know the teachers, families, and kids he served over the years, are better off because of Mike.

True heroes are rare. Mike was a hero to those of us lucky enough to work with him. He also modeled how to live life positively, even when life was not fair to him. He is missed. Gerrie Fausett

Michael was a top Superintendent who served the Palos Verdes USD well. He was most respected as a true leader. He will be missed.

I will always remember and cherish the time Milke and I taught and coached together at Miraleste high school. He was such a supportive and loyal friend. He was a true professional at everything he did. I so admired his courage these past several years. May God comfort the Caston family. Jon Fowler
