So sad to hear of the passing of Dr. Ellestad. My Mom Mary Saraceno Noyes knew him when she was a student nurse at Seaside Hospital in the late 1940's. I recall that she told me that that one of the physician's gave her a nickname of Miss Sunshine. Not sure if it was Dr. Ellestad. However, when I was a little girl in the 1960's, I was hospitalized at LBMMC and Dr.Ellestad was my cardiologist. My Mom contacted him as she knew him from Seaside Hosp. He was able to inform my parents that my condition was benign and that set me on a course of good things for my life. So later I became a RN and I recall seeing him at the LBMMC and thanking him for the impact that he had on my life. He was a very remarkable man. Condolences to Dr. Ellestad's family and friends. A true pioneer in Cardiology, and fantastic teacher. Many Cardiologists started their career and developed their passion for Cardiology under this great physician and leader.

I remember Dr Ellestad from years ago when I worked in Public Relations at Memorial Hospital. A great physician and thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I want to express my deepest condolences to the family and all who knew Dr. Ellestad. Grief can be so hard but our special memories can help us cope at this sad time. May God bless you and keep you at this time of such sorrow. It's clear by reading about him that he was a wonderful, one-of-a-kind, loving, dedicated man and physician.

Doc Ellestad was a good man. He always was ready with a smile, handshake and a memory. My dad introduced me to Dr Ellestad many years ago, and was right there when my Dad had open heart surgery. So many young Doctors studied under him, and are scattered around California. My Dad had a heart attack, and was taken to the hospital in San Luis Obispo. He was able to call Dr Ellestad and ask about the Dr doing his heart work. Dr Ellestad said "Why, heck, you don't need to worry.....I trained him". End of story, my dad lived many more years thanks to Dr Ellestad. Job well done, Doc !

A true pioneer, always a patient teacher even to the hospital marketing guy, and one of the best I ever had the pleasure to work with.
