Amelia Barraza

On March 12, 2014, Amelia Flores Barraza, age 86, of Las Cruces entered eternal life to be with her heavenly Father at La Posada-Mesilla Valley Hospice. She was born September 11, 1927 in El Paso, Texas to Andres and Maria de Los Angeles Calderon Flores. Amelia was a homemaker and a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Those left to mourn her passing include two sons, Julian Barraza and wife Lucy, and Ruben Barraza all of Las Cruces; five daughters, Jessica Barraza and Merced Shaw also of Las Cruces, Raquel Aguirre and husband Eloy of Washington, Irma Mullin of New Jersey, and Marie Miranda of Rio Rancho. Other survivors include seventeen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Amelia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Julian Barraza on May 10, 2010, and a sister, Luz Zamora. Visitation for Mrs. Barraza will begin at 5 PM Sunday, March 16, 2014 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road, where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 6 PM. Family and friends will join together to celebrate the Holy Mass of Resurrection at 10 AM Monday, March 17, 2014 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina with the Reverend Don Adamski, Celebrant. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Masonic Cemetery, 760 S. Compress Road where she will be laid to rest next to her husband and mother in the family plot. Serving as casket bearers will be Julian Barraza, Rudy Miranda, Josh Shaw, Rosamelia Barraza, Robert Dominguez and August Aguirre.
