When we were kids and visiting our grandparents, JJ and Angelica Maynez, across the street on the corner of Hadley and Mesquite. It was one of our greatest thrills to run to the sunshine grocery!!!! And there she was Ms Sanchez. She was always sweet and helpful!!!! The whole neighborhood revolved around the store.
It was quite a crew with the Sanchez, Maynez, Parades, Trivis running around that that corner. She was a great Lady.
You all are in our prayers!!!! God Bless you all!!!

A true icon of the Mesquite Street history! Anyone who ever met Bestina, will always remember her. I loved her passion for her family and community. The Sunshine Grocery Store and Bestina will be indelible in my wonderful memories of growing up on Mesquite Street. Thank you.

In 1948, Dad was transferred to White Sands Missile Range. There was very little housing available but we were blessed to be able to rent half of a small house on Hadley Street. The Sanchez Family welcomed us and introduced us to Mexican cuisine and culture. There are so many memories--Sunshine Grocery, of course, and the hardware store, old St Genevieve's and Holy Cross School, the productive pomegranate bush in the yard, Mr. Sanchez driving the Cadillac on Sundays, enchiladas on Christmas Eve. So many of these memories have Bestina at the heart.
She welcomed all and prayed for everyone. She will be missed by many.
Alex, Louis, Yolanda, Charlie, Lydia, and all the family--we think of you all. We share in your sorrow and keep you all in our thoughts.
Always,
The Oscar and Rose Marie Gottsponer Family
Dianne, Gary, Rick, and Ron
