Pat Allen Obituary

Pat Allen, as most knew her, loved life, was a sophisticated dresser, a sous chef in her own mind and cherished a fine Bombay Sapphire Martini to finish her day (she always shared her olives). Pat was the treasured only child of Reed and Irene Hom. Born in Wisconsin she was put on a pedestal by her family where she remained throughout her life. Pat was well educated and had a wanderlust to travel the world as a Foreign Correspondent. She moved to California to pursue her dreams where she met and married George Lord (Stratton). The marriage did not last but she did give birth to 2 fabulous girls, Candace (Lord) Sandling and Stephanie (Lord) Keepers. Pat moved to Dallas, Texas in 1949 where she reared her children and worked as a paralegal for 30 years. She was well respected in the judicial system and had a distinguished and long career in a Dallas law firm. During this time she also met and married Robert "Bob" Allen her husband of 50yrs. Together they started RaRaMe Kennels, a business and a passion she and Bob shared. They were well ensconced in the show dog world; breeding and showing boxers and pugs throughout her life. Never forgetting her desire to write, Pat was a contributing writer of the Bluebonnet Dog Club magazine. After the death of her husband in 2004, Pat moved to Las Cruces where she lived with her daughter Stephanie and son-in-law John. Not one to sit idle she became a member of the Wisconsin club and enjoyed going to Curves every morning. She made friends in Las Cruces and traveled extensively visiting family and friends worldwide. A well-spoken lady with a degree in English and a minor in Latin she expected (demanded) proper etiquette and proper English from her family and from all she met. She would not hesitate to correct. Our mother was a force to be reckoned with and though some called her feisty in her later years, this does little to describe her demeanor which we all loved and respected. She is dearly missed but her spirit is alive and well in her family. In addition to her 2 daughters, Pat is survived by her cousins (more like sisters) Lareen (Medler) Cerelli and Nan Medler, 5 grandchildren, Kimberly (Keepers) Kelley, Patricia (Keepers) Weber, Robert Keepers, David Sandling and Adam Sandling; and 8 great-grandchildren.
