It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Romana V. Chavez, age 78, of San Miguel on Friday, September 6, 2013. Ramona was born February 28, 1935 in Asencion, Chihuahua, Mexico to Victorio and Bernarda Villalobos. She was a homemaker and a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Ramona's love and laughter will be deeply missed, yet heard throughout her home. Survivors include her loving husband, Felix R. Chavez of the family home; their children, Olga and husband, Gabriel Gardea of Anthony, Danny Chavez of San Miguel, Felix Jr. and wife Ana Chavez, Robert Chavez and companion Maggie Rivera all of Las Cruces, Ray and wife Sylvia Chavez of San Miguel, Tony and wife Rachel Chavez of Tyler, Texas, Susie and husband Ernest Lascano also of San Miguel, Helen and companion Richard Van Horn also of Las Cruces, Roger and wife Anita Chavez, Lupita Chavez of San Miguel, Veronica (Bonnie) Chavez, and Valentina and Tynel Old Mouse all also of Las Cruces. Other survivors include a brother, Margarito Villalobos, as well as 24 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Ramiro and Ruben Chavez. Visitation for Mrs. Chavez will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013 in San Miguel Catholic Church, 19217 S. Hwy 28 in San Miguel, where the prayer vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 12, 2013 in the same church. The rite of committal and interment will follow in the San Miguel Cemetery where she will be laid to rest. Serving as casket bearers will be Danny Chavez, Robert Chavez, Ray Chavez, Tony Chavez, Roger Chavez and Chris Lascano. Honorary bearer will be Felix Chavez, Jr. Romana's love for her family will continue to live on through her many children as well as her grand and great-grandchildren. She was the best grandma ever she always offered me everything. She was so funny. She always loved to be active like playing cards, laundry. She loved to take care of her family.
