Shirley and Family, How can any words express the joy so many of us had when watching you in movies. You were the cutest child with all those ringlets of curls. You were so talented and made daily life fun with your smile. Life was hard for so many back in the depression, and you helped to lessen the sadness and gave hope to many with your energy and talent. Your family will miss you but they'll feel you near them. You've been blessed with eternal life in heaven, and you're probably entertaining people there now. I've most of your movies and several Shirley Temple dolls. They'll be passed to my granddaughters and I hope they'll cherish them also. Is there another talented family member in the Temple-Black clan? May you all hold this precious lady in your hearts and thoughts always, and smile when you think of her. What a blessing Shirley was to the world and a bright light. Thank You for the memories and for all you did for this country as our ambassador. This world needs more people like Shirley Temple-Black and all the good she did in her lifetime. GOD BLESS you all!!

I wrote this poem the day that I heard she had left this world, but not our hearts where she will always be. My deepest sympathy I send to her family, friends, and the world at this sad time and I share this poem in her memory for each of you.

The World's Little Princess
She gave the world a reason to smile with her own smiles for years…
She lit up my childhood when I was sad and lonely…
Her songs of enchantment taught children to eat their spinach…
Not to over indulge in candy from “The Good Ship Lollipop”….
And to fill their days with “Animal Crackers in My Soup”….
Where lions and tigers would loop ta loop in your bowl of soup…
And, “an old straw hat, a pair of overalls, and a worn out pair of shoes…
Were no disgrace in those lean years after the Great Depression…
She danced and sang her way into your heart and would never leave...
Little girls around the world in homes, yards, and garages would try…
Their very best to sing and dance their way into their parent's hearts like her…
As we grew, she grew and showed the world the innocence of young love…
Then she shared her love of Fairytales once a week to the children of world…
Who more fitting than an angel of the earth should serve as an Ambassador…
A light in the world has gone out leaving a legacy of smiles, songs, and dances…
Forever preserved for my grandchildren, their grandchildren, and every child at heart…
In a collection of films and records that will be loved now as they were then…
Thanks to this little girl with bright eyes, smiles, and the voice of an angel…
Who grew into a loving, caring, and amazing woman whose smile still will shine…
In the hearts of the children, grandchildren, and children at heart for all eternity…
It is time to sing with all the other angels…goodbye and rest in peace…
Shirley Temple Black, the world became lighter because you were in it…

It was a privilege for me to work at Bank of California and meet Mrs. Black when she was a Board of Director.

I absolutely adored in her movies as little girl! She was cute, funny and had so much talent. Her abilities were truly gifts from God. I loved watching her as a child and even as an adult. She will be missed so much by her many fans, but I'm sure there's no comparison to the pain her family must be feeling. Our heavenly Father knows how painful it is when we lose someone we love to death and he promise that he is going to “wipe out every tear” from our eyes, and “death will be no more” … Revelations 21:4. Please allow God to comfort you along with all of your many sweet memories that you shared with her.

Ill remember you by my Grandma & your namesake drink, & by your entertainment! <3

There are not many boys or guys that have entered their sadness and condolences, may I please be one of the few. Aa a small boy in the rural part of York, Pennsylvania I was introduced first to your photographs and the many articles printed about you and became enchanted with you. Over the years there became less and less news of you and when the recent announcement was made of your passing I was truly devastated. I will always cherish your memory and those ever loving dimples that you have. I am positive as a Christian that you are now with our loving creator and are in the ever lasting presence of our Blessed Savior jesus Christ for all eternity. God Bless you forever Shirley Temple Black. RIP

It is never easy to lose a love one...As I've told my family; "I would rather feel the pain because I know I loved someone, than to never feel the pain because I never loved anyone. Many times we are selfish and want to hold onto our love one's knowing how they are suffering. Texas thoughts and prayers go out to your family as you now soar the heavens with your late husband Charles and with the angles above watching over your family. You will be missed, but certainly well never be forgotten!

There is a Christian Show in the morning here in Calgary. The message today was and is definitely a tribute to Shirley Temple Black and all of us who follow God. The message was for us to vision how God sees us. God is to lead, and we are to follow in God's love for us in the direction God wants us to go. God has a plan for each and every one of us!
This very simple direction God will give us a life we would never could believe would happen.

Shirley Temple Black did follow and God gave her work that would lead in wisdom to enlighten and help millions of individuals; because we all need God's live, direction and wisdom. It is a dominos of love, Thank you, Shirley, now it is for all of us to see us as God sees us and take lessons of love and leadership from you.

My Mom named my youngest sister (my sister will be 57 years old on May 25th): Shirley, but she is modest and told me that the reason she gave Shirley her name was because she liked it, in reality my Mother named her after Shirley Temple. Thank you, God's Love will never stop because of your example and leadership: Shirley Temple Black!
February 24, 2014
May you Rest In Peace sweet Angel. I am very sad that you left this life but You are now flying above with much joy and happiness. May your sweet face and beautiful smile continue to bring happiness from above. I will always treasure the memories of my life with you here through your movies.

Upstairs in my bedroom I have a Shirley Temple dress, it was a reminder of the impact she had on my childhood. From movies and music, we will always remember Shirley. Now in my middle years, I must say what is most important was the role model she was in her adult years and that her family was the most important thing to her! This is what really matters, not just what is on tape. So here's to you Mrs. Black and a life well lived!

Shirley Temple Black:
To the prettiest, curly-headed, goldilocks ever to be on stage or film. I'm very glad to know that you were a Republican and be appointed as an ambassador to foreign countries and be a model for peace. You have done many things to prove your self-worth as well as be a role model for the American people. No one will ever hold a more premier place in history as you. No president will ever achieve more greatness than you. No actor or actress will ever accomplish "The Stardom of Grace" in which you have bestowed to the general public. You have always equalized or distinguished yourself as being no greater than your fellow Americans and this knowledge of self-worth is what made you a star, a very famous and unforgettable star. You are a true American Icon and may your star be everlasting in Heaven as it is on the "Walk of Fame." May you be an everlasting monument of peace, faith of justice and the American Way of Truthfulness. May my family and I thank you for perfection. You will always remain true to our hearts as you always have as a little girl. The Richardson Family-Woodland, Alabama

You were obviously chosen by God to help make a difference in peoples lives and you have done that through your precious movies and your great service to our country. You are a true American Role Model that everyone can benefit from.
My sincere condolences to you Linda Sue, George Jr. and Lori and may God grant you peace during this sad time in your life and may our heavenly father bring you Shirley, to everlasting happiness with him in heaven. I became so heart broken with the news of Ms Temple's passing. Every Saturday morning for years were spent watching her movies. I think poor little rich girl is my favorite. My grandmother knew how much I loved Ms Temple, she left her original Shirley Temple doll to me. My Mother gave me a collection of dolls from all the movies. I am a very lucky woman to have taken to heart the morals from her movies in my life and use to raise our daughter.
Thank you for every thing you did to help our country through all of the ups and downs ???
February 20, 2014
To the family of Shirley Temple Black. When I first heard the news of Shirley passing, I was driving to my sister to visit and I heard it on the car radio. "I started to cry".. She placed such good memories in my heart that made up my past. From my Heidi doll, I received at Christmas, to her Beautiful Smile and Bubbling personality in her movies. Know that I still have my doll and movies and that she will always live in our hearts that make up our past..
You have my Deepest Sympathy and Love,
BARB

Dear family of Shirley Temple Black: I am so sorry for your loss. You have no idea how much your mother inspired my own mom (who passed at 81--18 months ago) who not only took tap dancing lessons, but made her three girls into little "Shirley Temples" curls and all when she raised us; we also watched the movies and had purchased my mom's favorites of your mom. Please take some comfort in knowing your mom was a true servant and i personally will miss her. I still have my mom's Shirley Temple doll.
Sincerely,
Denise

Deepest sympathy sent to Mrs. Black's family and dear friends. She brought much light into the world at a time of darkness and many smiles to so many that so desperately needed something to smile about. Her life exemplified that of a truly giving American. Shirley Temple Black's life was a very generous gift that will be remembered for all times. I so appreciate the part she played in mine. Thank You and may you rest in peace, Bright Eyes.

February 18, 2014
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Shirley Temple was an amazing person. I grew up in a very dysfunctional home. I really don't have a lot of good memories of my childhood. But my best ones are of being able to look forward to sitting in front of the television and watching her movies as a child. Being able to laugh and smile and dream of the life of that little girl? I will always be thankful for the joy those movies brought into my life.
There is a Special place in heaven for people like Shirley Temple. God bless her family and I will have them in my prayers. Rest in peace Shirley Temple Black ???

I am still amazed that she could sing, tapdance and skip a rope at the same time. She was a gift to those who appreciate her amazing talents. You will always be proud of the life that she led as a woman of integrity. We already miss her. Please know that we are thinking of you and offer our condolences for your loss.

Shirley Temple Black was the most amazing actress ever, I could watch her films forever. To her family, I am so sorry for your loss because as adult she still seemed like that amazing child. She was one in a billion and you were lucky to have her. It's amazing I had just looked her up the night before she passed to see what she was up to. A beautiful person to the end. We all pass one day, but she left us with many wonderful memories. The way she led her life so few people in show business do, amazing. R.I.P.

I was born Jan 1951, but I;- like most children born right after world war two;- grew up watching all the Shirley Temple movies. I was so proud of what a wonderful woman she grew up to be. She was never a Hollywood brat but a child who was raised well, humble and had fantastic manners. " Sugar, spice and everything nice. " Is often written on new born baby girl cards; This suited Shirley Temple from the start 100% right on. She'll never be forgotten for the great joy she brought to people all over the world by doing the movies she did at a time in history when life was so sad and hard for most people. Nor will she ever be forgotten for the brilliant lady she was being an ambassador for the USA to other countries, a marvelous wife and wonderful mother. MY heartfelt condolences go out to her loved ones and close friends left behind for now; but not forever: because one day they will all see her again in Heaven as I will too.
February 12, 2014
I FELL IN LOVE WITH Shirley Temple when I was a small child, I wanted to dance like her, laugh like her, and look like her. She was the best actor I have ever seen. I will forever miss my sweet childhood Idol always, I will also continue to enjoy her grand movies. Your Fan

1930s child star movie actress will be sorely missed. Back in the 1930s (before my time)as a lil' curly-haired girl she starred in a good no. of films and even sang in some of those films. In the decades after her moving-acting career was over she'd become an ambassador and was even in the political spectrum for a lil' while. The late Shirley Temple shall be deeply missed. May her soul R.I.P.

Dear Family of Shirley Temple Black,
May God give you all His supernatural grace as you grieve for your loved one.
She is graduated to Glory now and with the Lord, at peace, in His presence.
My mother and father loved Shirley Temple movies and when I was old enough
they wanted me to see them when they came on television....so after church,
on Sunday afternoons, I would watch them and I loved them so much and I still watch them and I love them and I am 70 yrs. old..no one ever outgrows Shirley Temple!
When my husband and I started having children, we wanted them to see Shirley Temple movies and the loved them. NOW,our granddaughter is watching them and she loves the little girl and copies her singing and dancing just standing in front of the T.V.
Good moral character movies outlive any of the trashy movies of today.
Well done Shirley Temple and Mrs. Temple--
In His Name,
Judy Walthall

Three little girls in the 50s watched your movies in rapt awe! We could sing and dance, but you were the pro. My Mom had a Shirley Temple doll from when she was a girl ... and we all loved, loved, loved your movies. Especially your amazing dance in The Littlest Rebel.

Sadly, we lost our Mom in August, and now another of our childhood heroines has stepped through heaven's gate. Farewell to you, our dear little friend!

May God's loving angels comfort your family, until we are all reunited in His perfection.

Dear Shirley, you were one of the four real great actors of the thirties and forties, who were still among us. I mean you, Kirk Douglas, Doris Day and of course Mickey Rooney. It was a great shock to hear, that you left us at the age of 85. One of your songs is called "How Can I Thank You". Well, this is what I would like to ask you: You gave us with your films so much joy, that I want to thank You! I am a Dutch boy and only 46 years old, but I do love your work. Luckily I have most of your films on VHS, since they are never shown on tv in Holland (or Germany). I still want to copy them on dvd and watch them for the first time. So Mrs Temple, you will always be remembered, not only in the U.S. :-) eldrik@telfort.nl

For God is not unrighteous so as to forget your work and the love you showed for his name by ministering and continuing to minister to the holy ones (Hebrews 6:10). Shirley Temple will never be forgotten for all the work she did for child actors and the filming community and especially those encouraged and inspired in this persons' care. May God continue to strengthen the family and friends in these “times hard to deal with” (2Tim 3:1), especially without a beloved one such as Shirley Temple.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Shirley Temple.
I was fortunate to watch her long and successful career not
only as a child/adult actress but as a great ambassador
who represented our country in the most dignified way.
Shirley was loved by millions and will be missed.
Rest in peace Shirley, a job well done.

February 12, 2014
My deepest sympathies to Ms. Temple's family. As a child, I watched her movies faithfully and had her pictures covering one of my bedroom walls. I cherished my Shirley Temple doll which I passed along to my own daughter.
A brighter smile and cheerier disposition could not be had at a dark time in our Nation's history, and she was there to fulfill that need.
She grew into a charming, confident, outstanding woman and had none of the qualities which seem to plague the child/teenage stars of today. They need to copy a page from her book of life.
God blessed the world with Shirley Temple, blessed sad hearts, blessed her family. We will sorely miss her.
February 12, 2014
May loved ones please trust that Shirley will live again. The words at 1 Corinthians 15:26 are that death will be brought to nothing.
February 12, 2014
May you rest in peace. You will live on through you wonderful movies. Such a great talent for such a young actor. You have truly given the world a great gift!
February 12, 2014

I am so sorry for your loss Shirley Temple Black family. Shirley was a gift to so many. She brought joy during the depression and will always have a special place in my heart and memories. She is the same age as my grandparents. I grew up watching her movies and singing along. My mom tapped along with Shirley as I watched. Shirley had a God given talent to tap and a gift to make people smile. Shirley is the sweet little princess next door. I hope to see and meet her in Heaven one day. She definitely made a mark in my life and I will share her with my children and grandchildren. This Valentines week Shirley has my heart.

The Family of Shirley Temple,

I hope her legacy continue to be shown to the world. I am middle age now and her movies were very inspiring to me in growing up and also now to my daughter. She was very uplifting to me and my siblings. We always enjoyed her on TV. May Shirley R.I.P

No one can compare to you...Rest In Peace.
February 12, 2014

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.

When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Growing up watching the amazing talent of Shirley Temple in an array of fabulous movies, I was always lifted up by her beautiful smile, her lovely singing, extraordinary dancing and fabulous ability to portray any of the many characters in her films. I feel like her passing also ends an era of some of the brightest stars ever given us through the golden age of studio movies. We will miss knowing that Shirley was with us, yet ever happy when we get a chance to see her brilliant talent through the preservation of her films. God's grace be with her family at this time of loss.

My sincere sympathy is extended to Shirley's family. She was two years older when we were growing up. She was my idol. I could relate to her since we both loved tap dancing and music, we were both blonds, and the best part of all, we had the same last name. She set a great example for all children in her youth and continued to gain respect throughout her life both for America and her family. She certainly earned her place in heaven with God's angels.

Shirley Temple movies were my grandmother's one and only joy as she lay dying from throat cancer. She would watch them one right after the other and wore out three VCR's over a year-and-a-half. We were watching The Little General when she took her last breath. The hours of reprieve from her suffering were priceless and I know that my grandmother was one of the first people to greet Mrs. Temple-Black in heaven – she always wanted to meet Shirley Temple and now she has.

My Grandmother, Dorothy's family worked on Shirley's Grandparents farm. She would frequently stay at the farm in-between films. On one of her visits, my Grandma & her sister were baptizing their dolls in a horse water trough, when Shirley came over to watch. Shirley told Grandma that she thought they were being stupid, so Grandma grabbed her & baptized Shirley. It was years later that Grandma found out Shirley was famous, she had never seen one of her films!

February 11, 2014
I only saw her movies on TV as a child in a market with 3 stations although the dial listed channels 2 through 13, before I exposed of TV's with VHF and UHF. I do not have a favorite movie, however, I make check out DVD's to view them from another perspective AND to READ all readable credits. Some actors mentioned in her obituary I am not familiar with.
Here "team" dancing with Bill "Bojangles" Robinson was a favorite. Although my memory of the movie presently is vague.
I remember seeing a 33-1/3 album of soundtracks of her singing. None of her songs apparently were not released on 78's since all I here from the 1920's Radio Network during that era predominate is Big Band.
I am sure something will be played when I do not have the opportunity to tune in while driving nor streaming online through www.whro.org.
February 11, 2014
You made me smile so many times when I was a little girl, with your dimples and dancing and your beautiful smile. Heaven is blessed once again with the radiance of that smile. Sincere sympathies to her family and God's peace be with you all.

a poem to say goodbye...

goodbye, Shirley Temple in the lollipop ship absconding
it may be with the last elusive charms of childhood
oh goodbye I remember you best

grown up and hostess of the fairytale theatre
in gold and pink frothy gowns delineating
"this magic space" before my 8 year old eyes
(they had to be pink I decoded the black and white)
the diplomat of faerie and
your storybook with its border of roses, birds,
and crowns on pages I lived in like a

secret house within a house.
or in Heidi, happy at home with the Grandfather
singing and making your bed of straw already
golden.

or my sister's doll in pink and blue organza
I threw one day in a fit and then repented
I was so untrue but true again God heard
me say: I love my sister truly and we
were colouring again the day in which
our home tv black and white striped and then
working again would show (and we'd drop
everything)

Little Miss Marker, Now and Forever
forever, honour bright and later Bluebird bright
many years after you acted your heart out
missing the ruby slippers by a mile
but stalwart.

what is art but the blending of lollipop colours
seen through the long ago at best goodbye Shirley
Temple, be at rest

amid many flowers
and my small bouquet

When I was in 2nd Grade I missed almost two months of school because of illness and surgery. I also couldn't have a birthday party. So my folks got me a Shirley Temple doll. RIP dear dear Shirley. Will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

a poem, written after news of her passing...

goodbye, Shirley Temple in the lollipop ship absconding
it may be with the last elusive charms of childhood
oh goodbye I remember you best

grown up and hostess of the fairytale theatre
in gold and pink frothy gowns delineating
"this magic space" before my 8 year old eyes
(they had to be pink I decoded the black and white)
the diplomat of faerie and
your storybook with its border of roses, birds,
and crowns on pages I lived in like a

secret house within a house.
or in Heidi, happy at home with the Grandfather
singing and making your bed of straw already
golden.

or my sister's doll in pink and blue organza
I threw one day in a fit and then repented
I was so untrue but true again God heard
me say: I love my sister truly and we
were colouring again the day in which
our home tv black and white striped and then
working again would show (and we'd drop
everything)

Little Miss Marker, Now and Forever
forever, honour bright and later Bluebird bright
many years after you acted your heart out
missing the ruby slippers by a mile
but stalwart.

what is art but the blending of lollipop colours
seen through the long ago at best goodbye Shirley
Temple, be at rest

amid many flowers
and my small bouquet

When we were kids, our mothers all wanted us to be Shirley and they set our hair in rags hoping to achieve those curls. Having straight hair, I never quite achieved it, but my cousin who was blond and naturally curly and my sister, who had curly hair did! We also were encouraged to take tap dancing lessons to be more like Shirley. She was an adorable and enormously talented child and we are lucky to have her amazing body of work to remember her by.

I remember growing up watching her movies. I showed them to my daughter when I had my own. As I grew up, I discovered her again in a movie with Cary Grant and the charm she showed as a child actress was still there.

Her memory on film will last forever. Her example as a human being bigger than her celebrity is an example that should be held up to future generations as well.

I am very sorry for your loss. I am not sure of the year but it was 1969 or 1970 when Shirley Temple Black was in the Aurora, Illinois area to give a speech. At that time I was a student and had a job delivering flowers. I delivered some flowers to her at her hotel. Later that day I called and was put through to her room. I was hoping that if she had the time she would come and speak to my Political Science class. She did not have to take my call but she took the time to speak with me about her duties. I will never foget her kindness or her generosity.
