Thea, in 2003, was found to have myelogenous leukemia. She was taken to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington. After five months she was able to return home where she received continued therapy. After 9 wonderful years the leukemia returned and took this sweet wonderful lady away.
Thea was a gracious and generous Southern lady who was renowned for her spectacular garden, especially her hydrangeas. She was a member of the Columbus Camellia Society and was instrumental in establishing the Columbus Botanical Garden. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed hosting dinner parties for family and friends. She was extremely well read, particularly in history of the 18th and 19th centuries. She loved to travel and was fortunate to visit some of the most beautiful gardens in the world.
Thea was a long-time member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she belonged to the Miller/Wilson Sunday School Class. She especially loved being a part of the Ladies Bible Studies. She was a member of the Alter Guild and took great pleasure in providing flowers from her own garden for the church.
Thea was a devoted grandmother and took great interest in each child. She was a very patriot American and a strong supporter of the Armed Forces. Thea lived a full life with energy, joy, and great curiosity. She was a true and affectionate wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

We are saddened to hear of Mrs. Chastain's passing. She was very kind and compassionate. She had a cake delivered when we arrived across the street eight years ago. We are here if you need us. The Tylers

Dr. Chastain and family, I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Chastain's passing. On occassion, I would have to bring a sick child to your office on the weekend. I remember her fondly by your side in your office on these days as she helped you care for patients. She was always so kind and gracious. It meant so much to me and my family. She was a beautiful lady.
