Ooltewah, TN- Lawrence Clyde Smith, Jr. of Ooltewah, TN, formerly of Columbus, GA went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 10, 2013.
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 1:00 PM in Parkhill Cemetery with Rev. Billy Duncan of Beallwood Baptist Church officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, 31907. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 5:00 - 7:00 at the funeral home.
Lawrence was born November 3, 1928 in Columbus, son of the late Lawrence Clyde Smith, Sr. and Mildred Clarke Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ruby Hardy Smith.
Lawrence was retired from the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, where he was chief photographer and he also produced the Page One Awards for many years.
Survivors include two daughters, Cathy Sims (David) of Maumelle, AR and Vicki Hughes (Bill) of Ooltewah, TN; six grandchildren, Allison Sims, Scott Sims, Derek Sims, Chris Hutcherson, Brian Hutcherson and Adam Hughes; and a sister, Betty Chancey.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missions Fund or Building Fund at Beallwood Baptist Church, 4650 Veterans Pkwy, Columbus, GA 31904 or Amedisys Hospice Christen Foundation, 7161 Lee Highway #400, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
