My condolences to the family and friends of a great man, an excellent teacher, and a life coach. I remember he asked me what did I want to be and I was a confused teen. He introduce me into JROTC and he kept and motivated me there until I was enlisted into the U.S. Army. Everything he drilled and coached me on lead to a excellent military career until retirement. He was a great man and definitely an Officer. May he rest in Peace

I am Allen Brinkman II, the proud son of Maj Allen R Brinkman. I can never tell you all enough how thankful we are for these heart warming tributes. We intend to let these posts tell the wonderful story of what a great teacher, father, friend, husband and solider he was to his 7 young grandchildren. Seeing these posts we are humbled and more importantly reaffirmed our thoughts about this special man. He will forever be in our prayers and we will strive to live the life he would have intended us to. He died with this quote next to his bed. He tried to live by it. As we will try as well

To laugh often and much;

To win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children;

To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;

To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;

To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;

To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.

This is to have succeeded.

Thanks Maj Brinkman. I only participated in one year of JROTC, but your teaching carried over to the football field once I arrived at University of Georgia. Thanks a million, and if I am fortunate enough to get to Heaven; I know I will see you there. RIP Brother. Jody D. Hill Class of 1988....

I consider myself very fortunate for having known Major Brinkman. He was a true scholar and wise in many things. I was a freshman at Carver when he took over the JROTC program and was one of only a handful of seniors that were in his original class. He seemed to know what needed to be said and when to say it. I am saddened that I was never able to visit since leaving Columbus and even more so knowing I will never be able to shake his hand again. My deepest sympathies go out to his family. The world is a lesser place without his presence.

JROTC at Carver High School was my anchor and were it not for Major Brinkman and Sgt. Sunday I do not know what would have become of me. He was a huge influence in my life and I still have the articles I wrote for the Ledger on behalf of our Drill Team. The world is sorely lacking in men of his caliber and he will be missed. My deepest sympathies to his family.

I just got the news today of Maj. Brinkmans passing. He was an amazing teacher, friend, and stand in parent at times. I was an JROTC student at Carver High school where he taught. He contributed greatly to the person I am, he taught me to be a leader, listen, and be patient. One truly amazing man!
Maj. Brinkman, as I write these words I can see your smile :) thank you for the direction you lead so many of us....

Sir,
Rest Peaceful! You touched so many. I would not be who I am today without your mentoring. I was as scared as I have ever been at several events during JROTC at camp and in front of people at school. Your calm was amazing and I never completely got it, but I keep trying. I have the opportunity to lead as you taught, and I am proud that I learned it from you! No regrets except not coming back to see you more.

For the Brinkman family.
We called him "Uncle Al",cause he was an older, and second tour guy.(And besides that a captain!) We were younger, and first tour WO1's,"naive",simple,bullet proof kids. He took care of us in a way I'm sure he took care of everyone else in his life.

There are no words that can express how you all must feel, and it is impossible to make this time any easier. However, my greatest regret is not being able to tell or show him my gratitude or appreciation for all he taught and instilled in me as a student. I will miss him greatly. God called home and an angel that did complete His heavenly duty on earth.
