Thinking of you today! I love you and miss you!
I was just thinking of my dad. I miss him so much. Some days the pain seems unbearable. I love you daddy!
In 1971 I was visiting my family on Christmas leave. The day before I was flying back I burned a hole in my Class A Green jacket when ironing it. I took it to Mr Chriss at the PX tailor shop and asked if he could fix it quickly. When he said "no", I thought I was in real trouble. Instead, he handed me an abandoned jacket in the same size. He said he'd trade it one-for-one. He gained a life-long customer and my sincere thanks. I have that same jacket and my son wore it in high school JROTC years later. Mr. Chriss was a real Southern gentleman and I never forgot his kindness to a young Specialist in need. On a recent visit to Fort Benning to see my son I learned of the sad news of Mr. Chriss' passing. Soldiers have lost a true friend who practices honesty and integrity in everything he did.
Still thinking of all you girls and keeping you in my prayers! Love y'all!
Heather Ratliff Land

Four weeks ago yesterday, you passed away peacefully in your sleep. The pain becomes more unbearable everyday. We miss you so much. Grayson told me yesterday that he "needed to see Pepaw real bad". It broke my heart that I couldn't make it happen. Together, we looked at pictures of you but I don't want to look at pictures. I want to see you, hug you and laugh with you. I miss you so much! I love you, Daddy.
Daddy, It has been 3 weeks since you left us! Thanks for all that you did for us! We miss you so much!

Daddy, the pain just keeps getting worse. I miss you so much.
While I was working at Office Depot I met Art. The man always had a smile and a positive uplifting tid bit to share with me. Many times I have used his wisdom and dedication to people as a bright spot in my life. A good and honorable man has left this earth and he will be physically missed, yet Art will live forever in the spark he left in each of the people he met.
Blessings to each of you who knew Art.
I cannot find the words to express how Brick and I feel about the loss of Art. Although we have not seen you very often since we moved to Buena Vista, please know that we have always loved you, Art and the girls.

It was always a pleasure talking to Art; he was always a man of his word and a true professional.
Art was a great friend; to us; and to the soldiers and family members of Fort Benning - He will be missed by all that call Fort Benning home.
Art was always supportive of the troops. He was a passionate patriot. I've known Art professionally from AAFES days to Commando's- and personally a " river rat " at heart at the backwaters. When I first started my own business - my first event was a military event - Art was the first person to step up & show support. He was always so encouraging & inspiring. He was a great mentor. You will always have a special place in my heart Art. Prayers are sent to your beautiful bride Susan, Mellanie & all your other daughters & family during this difficult time. You were taken away to soon from this earth- but your heart print will remain to those lives you've touched for eternity. You will be missed!

Daddy, my heart is very heavy as I sit here missing you! You were an amazing man and I will treasure the memories forever. You were taken from us much too soon but I have peace knowing we will be together again one day. Please know that we will continue to "Serve Soldiers" with the level of customer service you insisted on and they deserve. I love you, daddy!
Dear Susan and family, I am sad to hear of your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers. It was a priveledge to have known Art for these many years.
I always called Arthur Chris, and don't ask me why, I have no idea! I do know that Chris was a very special human being, and a friend who I loved and will never forget, and as much as it grieves me; I know that Chris is in a place; like none on this earth, and being loved and cared for, and in complete peace. There are only a few people I know that I can say this about, but Chris was one of the few. Chris never had anything bad to say about anyone, and always greeted everyone with a smile and a positive outlook and attitude. Chris was always respectful to everyone; even if they didn't deserve it. My heart was always warm when I was around him. Chris was so caring and respectful to my father; even after he surcome to Alzhimers. He and my dad had a great relationship. Chris showed great respect and concern for all those serving their country, and I appreciated that so much. He did not do it; just because it was his business, and he had too; he did it because he truly cared about those serving their country. I am praying for his lovely wife and children and all those who loved him as I do. I think that Chris and my dad maybe are having a conversation as I write this.
My words are in adequate, but I know that Chris lived a life of purpose and a live of love and caring for others; I don't believe anything better could be said of any human being. God Bless, and Follow God Wholeheartedly; for He follows our every breathe!
Susan & Family, I am deeply saddened about Art. It's your loss as a family and our loss of a great friend. Art is one of the 5 most influential people I have ever worked with and know in my lifetime. He mentored me as an employer but more as an example of how to serve on and off the job. I will miss his upbeat greeting calling my name and always extending a welcome handshake whenever I dropped by to say "Hi". Your Christmas cards will not be the same without him. He is missed. May God comfort you in this time of sorrow.
Susan & Family, and the ARCCO/Commando Staff,
My sincere condolences to Susan, your family, as well as the staff of Commando/ARCCO. I had the good fortune to meet Art in 1987 when I was assigned as the Adjutant of the US Army Ranger Department in Harmony Church. One of the first things my predecessor did was to introduce me to Art. After a tour of the entire building (including his secret upstairs storage area,) you could just see how proud he was of his store and staff. Needless to say, we hit it off and became instant friends. After leaving active duty later in 1987, I made it point to stop by and see Art and the folks there at ARCCO every chance I could. I remember my first trip back to see him in ~1992. Art remembered me instantly, and gave me some free goodies there from his store (yes, I still have the “Absolut Ranger…absolute Hoo-ahh!” t-shirt that he gave me…no, it does not fit, but I still have it!) After another store tour and some catching up, I casually mentioned I was heading over to Country's for dinner, and parted ways. About a half an hour later, Art shows up there and sits down with me, continuing the conversation from earlier. We have dinner, and he picks up the check! That was the kind of gentleman Art was.
Susan, I know that you and the family will miss him dearly, but Art's second family…his military family, will also miss him so very much. Many a soldier was ‘squared away' there at his stores, me included.
Art's entrepreneurial spirit, his support to the Army, his local community service in Columbus, and his sincere camaraderie with his customers and friends will always be his hallmarks. He has set the bar high for others to follow. Art will be missed.
Nikki, Sandi, and Family,
I am so sorry about your dad. He was such a special person & was loved by so many. Praying for peace for you all in this sad time. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Love you lots,
