February 7, 2013 always a pleasure to listen to --remember him as chaplin at ssc February 7, 2013 Bishop D'Arcy was such a blessing to me and my family. He was my husband's immigration sponsor when he came to the United States from Ireland to teach theology. He was my friend as I worked as a theology teacher at Bishop Dwenger. He always stopped to talk with us and our daughters anytime he saw us. After his retirement, he would celebrate mass with our parish sometimes. Each time he would give us hugs and talk with us for a while about our lives. He always remembered our daughters names and asked about them. I recall one time meeting up with Bishop at a diocesan event. We sat down with him and shared lunch. then after lunch ended, we sat for a while longer after others had left while Bishop played with our two young daughters, probably 2 and 4 at the time, while they ran under the table. He was able to just be with us in the moment...loving the gift of life. Bishop has always shown me how to live and for that I will always remember him.
