I met Liz at our Writers' Conference in Marble Falls, TX - she borrowed my lipstick :) It was bright red, and she loved bright red - it matched her clothing and her personality.
The following year she honored us by returning to participate in our next Writers Conference. I had the privilege of being her attendant and delighted to get to know her a little better. We exchanged books - her Start With A Laugh and my Caring For Your Aging Parents. She was indeed one of those formidable and rare pioneer women, a courageous leader for women of the future. It was my pleasure and privilege to know her - her leaving us creates a strange void in our lives. My sincere condolences to Cindy and Scott

I always enjoyed seeing Liz at the LBJ Library events. She shared stories with me many times and I will always remember how kind she was to me. God Bless her and her family. Love Darin

I have to admire her for all she contributed to women in politics. I didn't get to Austin by being elected so when my job took me to Austin and one day I was in a bank elevator with her and she was such a nice person when a stranger was thrilled to meet her. What a great career she enjoyed.

As a teen, I wrote to Liz Carpenter and she wrote back; I have those friendly little notes here. --Tim Schultz
