Mr. Magee was great to me as a kid growing up in NYC. He took me along with David and John to John Jay Park for swimming (and one time to the pool at Julia Richman), Carl Schurz for climbing on rocks, Mets games, and lunch at the Pontiac. I remember eating liverwurst sandwiches in his apartment on 79th Street which had a poster of Humphrey Bogart or Clark Gable (I can't remember which). He also had a few political buttons from the 1950s and a picture on his refrigerator of he and some friends at college. I recall him as an elegant yet completely approachable man (he even drove a car elegantly) with a quiet sense of humor that was well worth straining to hear. I can still hear his baritone voice calling one of his sons over to his side.
