Blake, Michael J.
(1934-2013)
Michael J. Blake, longtime resident of Pearl River, passed away on Jan. 18, 2013, surrounded by his wife, Regina (Jeanie) and four children, Tricia, Michael, Kathleen and Maureen.
Michael was born July 10, 1934 to Patrick and Mary Blake in the Bronx, NY. He attended St. Peter and Paul Elementary School and then Cardinal Hayes High School where he graduated in 1951. He joined the military and served in Korea for the United States Army. Upon leaving the service he worked for General Electric Co. for 15 years while he began raising his family with his wife Jeanie of 53 years. After General Electric he worked for several years in construction and eventually drove a bus for the New York City transit where he retired in 1991.
Michael, Little Jake, will be remembered for his fellowship with his friends and family and his unyielding devotion to his wife Jeanie, whom he married on April 4, 1959. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family, especially his 17 grandchildren. He loved attending their various sporting events and school performances. He truly enjoyed a good, hearty laugh when he was around the people he loved.
He is survived by his wife Jeanie, his four children and their spouses, Tricia and Bill Williams of Park Ridge, IL; Michael J. and Eileen Blake of Pearl River, NY; Kathleen and Raymond Borriello of Montgomery, NY; Maureen and Jim Mercer of Sparkill, NY; his 17 grandchildren, Winston, Michael, Ray, Blake, Jack, Coco, Devon, Allly, Conor, Katie, Kristen, Matt, Ryan, Tara, T.J., A.J. and Ronan; his sister, Catherine and Martin Gill; brother, James; his mother-in-law, Josephine Kirby Kavanagh; and sister-in-law, Pat and Jimmy Santilli. He was predeceased by his brother, Vincent.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Aedan's Roman Cathlolic Church at 10:00 am on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Michael's name to St. Peter and Paul Elementary School, Bronx, NY.
