SCICHILONE, BRYAN SANTO, an extraordinary loving soul who has deeply touched our lives, along with many others, has departed this earth for his heavenly home.
He was born to Rita and Marshall Scichilone on October 12, 1973 and passed away Friday December 13, 2013. Bryan was beloved in the community and focused his efforts and attention largely on helping others.
He taught with excellence as Associate Professor of English and Head of Developmental English Department at Jefferson Community College, and was a favorite among the students he humbly served. Bryan earned his MA from Western Washington University and was a gifted poet and published author. Bryan had many professional and personal accolades but his greatest achievement and legacy was the way he cared for others, particularly his family. From football, poetry, teaching, to being a husband, Bryan did everything perfectly.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Love Yascone; his mother Rita and father Marshall; grandmother Rose; siblings Andrea, Joanna, and Al as well as four nieces and three nephews. He is also survived by Love's sisters, whom he also called his own, Joy and Faith Yascone, and his wife's mother, Glenda and his beloved best friend Cheyenne.
A celebration of Bryan's life will be held at Bernheim Forest, in the Garden Pavilion, Friday December 20, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers please send gifts in Bryan's Memory to: Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest Attn: Memorial /Honorary Gifts P.O. Dear Scichilone Family, We just learned about Bryan today, one year later. We are thankful the guest book is open still. My husband was a friend of Bryan in college, roommates with him while he was in the PNW, and also in his wedding. I only met him once. He was a kind and gentle spirit. My husband cared for him. Thank God for the internet or we wouldn't have known of his passing. Our deepest sympathies, thoughts, and prayers to you all.

When I heard the news of Bryan's sudden passing I was very stunned and immediately saddened. Bryan was an awesome colleague! He was just an all-around caring and good guy with a wife he was so proud of. I remember the holiday parties with the Black Affairs Advisory Committee; my God it seemed like it was just yesterday.
Love -- I am so sorry for your loss. After speaking with you a couple of times I know you loved Bryan deeply. And, I can't imagine what you are going through right now. And, as I have read through all the guest book entries and spoken to colleagues on both the Downtown & Southwest campuses, Bryan will be definitely be missed at Jefferson. That is for sure. He was a quiet force, but well-respected in all the various faculty committees he participated with at Jefferson.
I am still just so "shocked." And, I just want to express to Bryan's entire family...we are all better because we entered into Bryan's space! Bryan was an awesome person with the most colorful stories. Bryan will remain in our hearts. Be blessed and know there's no pain here in earth that Heaven can't feel or heal. May God bless and keep this entire family during this time of bereavement.

I'm so sorry. He was a dear person and he will be missed by all. He was more than just a good teacher, he showed someone who thought she couldn't write a paragraph, a whole world of new sentences, that could fill her dreams. Thank you, Bryan.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of our friend, Bryan. Our small town of Woodbine, Iowa is grieving the loss of one of its own. He was a great person to be around and fabulous friend to me, my sisters and everyone during our time together at Woodbine Community School & High School. I have so many fond memories of times spent with Bryan and all of our friends. Too many to even mention! Bryan was very funny, kind, smart, talented and just a great person all around! He was and always will be a beloved classmate of mine and all of his friends from the WHS Class of 1992. We will miss you Bryan! My and my family's thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences go out to his wife, parents, sisters, brother, extended family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time. We will continue to keep you all in our thoughts and prayers in the coming days, weeks and months ahead. Praying for God's blessing and comfort to support you now and always. Rest in peace, Bryan.

My deep felt condolences to Bryan's family and Love's family. I never had the chance to meet Bryan, but have had the honor of working with his mother Rita for the past two years. Rita is so very proud of her family and she often shares wonderful stories about her husband Marshall and her children, grandchildren and siblings. She is so very proud of all of you. Rita always beamed with pride and joy when she spoke of Bryan and his many talents. This is a terrible loss to all. It will take time to heal and I hope that the wonderful memories of Bryan can help ease the pain over time. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Lisa Spellman

The years go by and so many of us lose touch with the awesome and wonderful people we remember from our childhood. Bryan, I still think back to our days of high school football. I learned so much just from watching how you carried yourself then, how you treated others, and how you did things with passion. It took me a long time to figure out what you were doing back then but I never forgot. I am saddened that the world has lost such a great man and overjoyed that heaven has gained such a great soul. Our thoughts and prayers go out to your family. May the Lord bless and keep all of you. - Jeremy & Angel Poore
