Pelham, taught in MA, talented drummer; Vet
PELHAM -- Robert J. "Bob" Doucette, a man of deep faith, took his rightful place in Heaven on Monday, August 26, 2013 at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by his loving family and the love of his life. He was 79 years of age.
Born in Reading, MA on September 16, 1933 to the late Alice Doucette and Sylvester Doucette. He was a resident of Melrose, MA for 30 years; Bradenton, FL for 10 years, and most recently resided in Pelham, NH for the last six years.
He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Education played an important role in Bob's life. He believed that a good education opens your eyes to a wider world, and gives you opportunities for a better life. Bob went to Northeastern University at night for 10 years and proudly earned his Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Bob worked as a tool designer and draftsman for many years at numerous companies throughout his career. He had his own remodeling business for 15 years where "No Job was too Small", and rounded out his career as a Drafting Teacher at Shawsheen Valley Regional Technical High School in Billerica, MA. He retired from teaching in 1997.
A hard worker by nature, Bob never fully retired and enjoyed working as a handyman in his later years, and most recently as a limo driver where he had the opportunity to meet wonderful people.
An avid golfer right up to his final days, he enjoyed softball and football, and living an athletic life. He was a big fan of all Boston Sports teams.
A man of many talents, Bob had his private pilot's license and loved to fly. He was blessed with an incredible gift of music, and was a talented drummer. He had the opportunity to play with great bands and musicians over his 70 year career and he could be found sitting in at family weddings and events.
He spent many years as the drummer for the St. Agnes Charismatic Prayer Community Music Ministry, and most recently as a member of the St. Patrick's Parish Choir where the beat of his drum could be heard in Heaven.
What he cherished most was the times spent with his family. Some of the most memorable times were those piled into a station wagon to spend a Sunday afternoon watching planes take off and land at the local airport. Bob would set up the drums in the living room for birthday celebrations and whale to the tunes of Blood, Sweat & Tears, and Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass Band. Some of the most cherished moments were those spent at Mascoma Lake, Enfield, NH with the St. Agnes prayer community.
Bob was the beloved "husband" of seven years to Shirley Wakefield. Devoted father of Linda Doucette Rosa (Dan Rosa) of Lexington, MA; Lorraine Brown (John Brown) of Ochelata, OK; Steven Doucette (Leslie Doucette) of Melrose, MA; Lisa Doucette Walton (Scott Walton) of Methuen, MA; Joe Doucette of Haverhill, MA , and John Doucette (Mary Doucette) of Melrose, MA. Loving Grandfather of Annie & Mike Rosa; Jennifer Brown & Christina Clem; Raquel, Steven & Nicholas Doucette; Savannah Bynum; Kevin McMillan, Danielle & Michelle Doucette; and Nicole, Michael & Courtney Doucette. Cherished Great-Grandfather to Christopher Ryan and Hayley Clem. Bob gives thanks and love to Mary Doucette of Melrose, wife of 32 years, for giving birth to and raising his six children.
Bob is survived by his brother, John Doucette of Reading, MA; and sister, Nancy O'Donnell of Stoneham, MA; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Barbara Winters of Lancaster, PA.
The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and doctors at Lowell General Hospital for the excellent care that Bob received in his last few weeks The kindness and compassion of so many individuals not only provided skilled and professional care to Bob, but also supported the family during a very difficult time. The family is eternally grateful.

Linda and I always enjoyed Bob's company on ski trips. I have to relate a funny ski story. He accompanied us on our very first school ski trip to Stubai, Austria, where his excitement was palpable and infectious to us.
Bob skied ahead of me in some fairly remote off-piste stuff and went by a sign (in English, German, Italian and with pretty graphic illustrations) that warned of an avalanche field--which of course Bob went right into.
I stopped and didn't want to yell or make a lot of noise, but of course that didn't stop Bob from almost jumping up and down in appreciation of the natural beauty.
He finally figured out what was going on and grinned all the way to the bottom.
Bob, we'll miss you.
