TEWKSBURY -- Deolinda A. 'Dee' (Mendonca) Mesquita, 88, of Tewksbury, died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Lowell General Hospital after a long illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of the late Joao Mesquita.
A daughter of the late Ramiro and the late Maria (Sousa) Mendonca, she was born March 7, 1925, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, where she grew up and was educated. There she married her late husband, Joao, and raised her family. She came with her family to the United States in 1966, settling in Lowell.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church, and had worked in the textile mills when she came to the United States. She also worked for Commodore Foods and the former Wang Laboratories.
Dee's favorite pasttime was spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. She also loved shopping and watching television soap operas, and Benfica games.
She is survived by her daughters, Maria Pereira and her husband, Jose, of Tewksbury, and Margarida Sullivan and her husband, Kevin, of Hudson, NH; her grandchildren, Maria Little and her husband, Mark, of Dracut, Ryan Casey of Hudson, NH; her great- grandchildren, Ashley Little and Markie Little of Dracut, and Blaze Silva of Lowell; her brother, Deocleciano Mendonca and his wife, Guadaloupe, of Graciosa, Azores, and Hirondina DaSilva and her husband, Manuel, of Lowell; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Jorge Gabriel, the late Maria Joao, and the late Joao Manuel, and sister of the late Maria Lobao, the late Doroteia Lourdes Veiga, the late Bernadete Bettencourt, the late Manuel Mendonca, the late Joao Mendonca, the late Clarimundo Mendonca, the late Noe Mendonca, and the late Alvino Mendonca.
