CHELMSFORD -- John R. Hibbard, a longtime Chelmsford resident, died peacefully on August 19, 2013, in Chelmsford, aged 84 years. He was the beloved husband of Glenice R. (Hiley) Hibbard and the late Claire (Cryan) Hibbard.

Upon his return from service, John became associated with the Boston Naval Shipyard as a pipefitter for a time, and then worked for the Boston & Maine Railroad. For the remainder of his career, he worked as a plumber at Fort Devens, until he retired on July 31, 1987.

Mr. Hibbard was a member of the Ancient York Masonic Lodge in Lowell, and was a past president of both the Acacia Club of Dracut and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), Chapter 360.

He was a longtime, active member of Matthews Memorial Church in Chelmsford, where he served on the Board of Trustees.

I will miss his presence in our Trustee meetings and his sound advice of "We're going to keep this short, right?" with a wink. He was a good friend and truly a great man. Our love and prayers are with his family.

To the Hibbard Family-I knew John from NARFE meetings in E. Chelmsford. He was a patient, devoted officer and member, always willing to listen and help get answers to other members' questions. He was a gentleman and will be missed. My sincere condolences on your loss.
