I just heard about Tom yesterday. My deepest sympathy. I first met Tom when I started to teach at Lowell Tech. in 1966. Tom "took me under his wing" and helped me as a beginning instructor at Lowell. He was a talented and humble man. I'm grateful to have worked with him for many years.

My deepest sympathy to all of the McElligott Family
I attended Sacred Heart School and Keith Academy with Thomas III. While at Lowell Tech I had Tom Sr. as a professor in Graduate School. He was a very understanding teacher, always willing to help the students achieve their goals.

"Dad" I thought of you so often and fondly these past years, always grateful for the tutoring...boy did I need it...we forged a bond, your "third" daughter if I remember correctly.

I'm sad to know you've left this earth, I know mine was only one of the many lives you touched and I am forever grateful and proud to have known you, even if it was for just a short time...you will be missed dearly!

Much love to your family! Your legacy lives on in them...xoxo

My boys and I were so lucky to have the chance to get to know Mr. McElligott over the past few years. When one would get stuck on a math problem, he would come to the rescue and not just answer the question but explain it too! His incredible mind was second only to his gracious heart. His absence will be noticeable but his legacy will live on in the cheerful smiles and kind gestures of his children, grandchildren, and students. He has touch many lives -- out prayers and thoughts are with his family. Much love, Monique, Ben, Sam, and Oliver

It was our pleasure to have known Tom, through Michael and Patty, during the last 40 years. Many were the times we visited at their Cape house when we spent our summers at our house in Centerville. What we enjoyed the most were his Irish wit and his zest for life. He had a unique sense of humor and it was always so interesting to sit down and talk with him about anything from politics to his beloved Boston Red Sox. Tom was the epitome of a true gentleman and his devotion to Alice and his family was always clearly evident in all he said or did. We will miss him.

Prof. McElligott was a brilliant, kind man. It was a privilege to study with him at the University of Lowell in 1985. I have always been grateful to him for introducing me to the concept of the Golden Ratio.
