In the fall of 1988, in Case Hall at Michigan State University is where I met Mr. Khalil Wasson. Our friendship began during a lively group discussion on how underprivileged children could be better served by public education. We shared similar views and as expected, found ourselves at odds with the rest of the participants. On that day we bonded and have been friends ever since. Kahlil was mix of many admirable attributes. Pensive and studious, clean cut and gregarious, focused and determined, these are some of things that family, friends, and his professional peers admired in him. I think his most valuable attribute was his commitment to action. He just didn't ponder ideas, he put them in motion and his life accomplishments, in just 45 years, attest to his "do something" mantra. This is one of the key lessons his life bestows on all of us fortunate enough to have known him. He realized that he was impactful on others, particularly young people, and fully embraced the responsibility of influencing them in positive ways. He adored his sons, set goals and achieved them, and supported his community through volunteerism and mentoring. His was a life fulfilled and I thank God for the opportunity to call him friend. And, for those who mourn him, I pray that as time moves forward the sadness and shock of his passing will be supplanted with smiles and fond memories of him. Kahlil will never be forgotten.

My son and I left the area in 2010 and I did not know if Khalil's passing. I'm shocked and heart broken. Khalil was a wonderful role model for my son and I admired his devotion and respect for the kids. May God bless and keep his family. His boys have pretty big shoes to fill.

How do you describe how important Kahlil was to so many people? The impact this kind, considerate and caring man had on everyone he met. I had the privilege of working at Meridian Township with Kahlil. I saw the positive, professional and down to earth officer that he was. More importantly I got to see the friend Kahlil could be. I know I'm a better person for knowing him. See you in Heaven "Lilly"

Josh, Isaiah and Evan,
I feel privileged to have met your father. He was truly one of the kindest, most sincere people I've known. As his neighbor, he always had a conversation (and occasionally some delicious ribs) ready when we crossed paths. Although I feel like we are all lessened by his passing, you should be proud of the man he was and his impact on those around him. Your entire family is in our thoughts. -The Malinaks
