Lilian Campion Obituary

Lilian "Shep" Campion

Lansing

Shep Campion passed away peacefully on February 26, 2015 at the age of 93.  Born Lillian Margaret Shepperdson May 19, 1921, raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of James and Rita Shepperdson.  While a member of a Canadian Women's Traveling softball team in late 1930's, she met her husband-to-be in Lansing, who was playing on a US Men's traveling team. During WWII, she worked in a munitions factory and after the war married Robert Campion Sr., moving to Lansing in 1945 and was married to Bob for 52 years.

Shep was preceded in death by her parents; brother Arthur Shepperdson, husband Robert Sr., and daughter Cindy.  Surviving are her sisters, Bernice Zanello, and Patricia Wilson; son Philip (Pat) Campion; daughter Joan (Ken Guillotte) Campion; son Robert Jr. (Lori) Campion; grandchildren Kimberly (Kyle Houston), Kyle (Alexis), Robert (Alyse) Campion; and great granddaughter Mariella Campion.

Shep was a Cub Scout den mother, and Brownie Troop leader, member of the Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary Post 1654 and State President of the CWVA, volunteered at Loaves and Fishes Ministries, Lansing District Library, and Lansing Sparrow Hospital. She worked as a Media Specialist for the Diocese of Lansing, retiring from Lansing Catholic Central High School as a Media Specialist and Assistant Librarian. Shep was a member of the Church of Resurrection for over 60 years and also a member of their Altar Society.

An avid reader, Shep loved to play bingo and excelled in Scrabble and loved to travel, visiting all over the US and Canada, as well as travels in Ireland, Scotland, Greece and the Bahamas. Sadly, she missed visiting Paris. She enjoyed watching all sports especially tennis and golf and was a big fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers and MSU Sports.  She will remain loved and unforgettable.

Visitation will be held at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 900 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing, MI on Wednesday March 4th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm with rosary at 7:30pm. Funeral Mass will be held at the Church of the Resurrection on Thursday March 5th at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Lansing Catholic High School (Chapel Fund) or Loaves and Fishes.

Many thanks to the Staff of Grandhaven Living Center in Lansing for the care and compassion Shep and her family received these last four years, as well as to Hometown Health Services (Hospice) in her final hours. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel.  Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.grlansing.com.

Such a full and active life is a great blessing. May she be rewarded for sharing her gifts and talents with the people of God and may God bless and comfort you. Perhaps now she is at the great family reunion in heaven and may serve as an intercessor for us all. God bless.
