I met Maxine while working at Tubbs Elementary in mid-80's. I remember her as being a nice sweet person with a sense of humor and always a smile on her face. RIP Maxine. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Maxine was an awesome lady. She had that soft voice and happy spirit that was contagious. I remember we roomed in San Antonio with several other ladies. We enjoyed listening to the Mariachis and it was here where I got to know her. What a beautiful Angel who is now with our Lord. You will be missed, Maxine. Keep sharing your smile in heaven.

Maxine was a fellow volunteer at Covenant Women's and Children's Hospital. She was precious and we loved hearing her stories and her wonderful sense of humor. God rest her soul and bring comfort to her family.

Maxine, or Miss Abeyta, did her student teaching under my grandmother, Elizabeth Lupton Owen (Big Red), at Christ the King school. Years later Maxine taught my daughter, Courtney Smith, at Tubbs Elementary. She was instrumental in laying a foundation for lifelong learning in my daughter and hundreds, if not thousands, of children in Lubbock. RIP Miss Abeyta
