Roger was an inspiration to me, I miss him very much. One of my fondest memories is from summer vacation at lake LBJ around 1973. My cousins and I were younger and half his size. We played a game called "king of the dock". The dock was slippey at its deepest end, from us getting out and jumping in the water. Roger would stand ready at the end on the slippery dock, like a lineman bracing for our attack. We would rush him and hold on to his legs, arms and anything that we could grab hold of. His job was to tear us off of him and throw us into the lake. We would fight to hold on to him with everything we had. We slipped and fell all over that dock and laughed so hard we almost passed out. If we were getting the best of him he would jump off the dock with all of us hanging on. We could hardly tread water we were laughing so hard. Laughing and choking we would swim to the dock, climb out and go again. I loved him for his energy and kindness to play with us. He was older and had other things he could be doing, but he choose to play with us and l loved him for that. He was a kind, kind man. One of the really good guys.
