John was one of the biggest personalities I think I have witnessed. His charisma, humour and approach was as much the reason for his success in football management as was his knowledge of the game. I was a kid when I knew him but looking back I can see just he much he was respected and admired.
Some of my dad's fondest football memories I am sure were alongside John. Not only the Electrolux dressing room 'nice and nasty' routine (where I began to believe a structure of an English sentence must have a minimum of 5 expletives) but of course the post game gin, bitter lemon and slimline tonic if memory serves. What John achieved at the club's fortunate enough to have him involved should be admired. He would do as well today as he did all those years ago. Perhaps even more.

He had time for everyone and was a joy to be in the company of. One of the good guys and whilst I am sure missed by many just think how life would have been that bit duller without him. :)

Best wishes.

Ross (son of Scruff) King
