MCPO Barley,
It is sad that "Taps" has sounded and "Eternal Father" has been sung. It was my priviledge to have been your Commanding Officer and Shipmate.

Fair Winds and Following Seas MCPO Barley. You and I were drilling Naval Reserve Master Chiefs in the same unit for just under 15 years. In the beginning we were called: RUTU 120-Reserve Underway Training Unit that morphed into FTG 120 - Fleet Training Group San Diego Det. 120. But the grandest wasd when you slid over to become the Command Master Chief of COMNAVRESREDCOMREG 20 ie: The senior enlisted chief of 5,500 Naval Reservists in Northern California, Nevada, Utah and Hawaii. You ran with a two star Admiral from 80-82. Then, ole Buddy, you asked me to take over the same spot from 82-84. That was some high level tasking and very, very high vis. In all modesty we were up for it big time. We kept in touch through out the years then you moved to Vegas not knowing I lived in Boulder City as a child from 41-44. I love Nevada. Well,
39 days prior your passing I called you and set up a dinner at Caesars Palace, Old Homestead Restaurant. You accepted and it was golden to dine with you, chat with you and swap stories.
Save a spot for me upstairs near the Big Guy and together we'll set up a non-stop beerfest and beef jerky pub. Count on it.
