I could write a novel about Doug. The stories are so rich and personal that it is not possible to due justice to him in just a few words. I can say that he was one of the 3 or 4 most influential men of my life. His wit and perspective never was equaled by any. I find myself quoting him so frequently.
It remains a comfort to me that I knew him. We were friends. He was my mentor and frequently my Hero.
I smile when I think of his many unique quips. But most of all he made so many of us more than we might have been without him. I know him to be the most professionally honest individual I have ever known. He loved his family and he loved his friends. He was tolerant of all of us -- yet, he always told us what he thought. While that was occasionally painful, he was always there to prop us up -- to give us that second or third chance.
I want to say that I loved that guy. I want to see him again. For now, I will just think of him.Sometimes that will make me sad -- but -- sometimes that will make me smile.
