MSGT MELVIN LUDWIG JR. U.S. Air Force, Retired Melvin H. Ludwig Jr., 84, of Las Vegas, passed away Oct. 22, 2013. Mel loved serving his country and retired as a master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He was then employed by NASA at Cape Kennedy. He was honored to have had the privilege of working on the flight that landed the first men on the moon. In 1971 he fulfilled a dream of owning an auto garage where he worked with his sons. He was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served in many callings, including a mission in the London Temple. Mel spent many years involved in scouting, temple work and his family's genealogy. Mel is survived by his wife, of 64 years, Eileen; and their six children; 24 grandchildren; and 30 great- grandchildren. Viewing will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, with services beginning at 11 a.m., both at the Walnut and Carey LDS Chapel, 2295 Walnut Road. Mel will be interred at a later date at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City.
