Macon, GA- Edward Hawthorne Fluker graduated from this earthly plane on January 20, 2014, after a full and happy life. A memorial service will be held for family and friends at 3:00pm Saturday, January 25, 2014, at The Library Ballroom on Mulberry Street. Stories and tributes will be shared in celebration of Ed's extraordinary life.
Mr. Fluker was born in Atlanta, Georgia on June 9, 1925, and his early childhood was spent in Washington, Georgia. He graduated from St. Petersburg High School and enlisted in the Navy at the age of eighteen. He served as a store keeper on Guam from 1944-1946 and volunteered for reconnaissance flights over the Marianna Islands before Iwo Jima and the surrender of Japan.
He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Florida with Blue Key Honors and a BA degree in Commercial Art. He was a partner in Southern Press Printing Co. in Macon, Georgia from 1954-1970. He founded Fluker & Associates Marketing and Advertising Agency, in Macon, in 1970. The agency won many national and local awards for clients' marketing campaigns and projects.
He was a member of several civic organizations and was instrumental in helping to establish the Macon-Bibb Convention Bureau. He also served ten years on the board of Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority and was a lifetime member of the Central Georgia Ad Federation. He was a man of many talents and was a spiritual teacher sharing meditation techniques and metaphysical philosophies. His pen and ink sketches and paintings were often used by clients as gifts to their clients and friends throughout the world. He enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren often requested harmonica and ukulele songs embellished by his magic tricks. He was predeceased by his father: Edward Fluker and mother: Harriet Dowling Fluker and by his precious daughter: Patti Brown.
He is survived by his loving wife and partner of thirty-three years: Diane "De" Fluker; daughters and sons-in-law: Miki Fluker of Macon, Terri and Kerry Gilman of Hollywood, California, Valorie and Benji Lewis of Haddock and Rebecca and Arthur Bleakley of Jacksonville, Florida; stepdaughter and her husband: Claire and Jimmy Green of Warner Robins; stepson and his wife: James L. and Joy Stephenson IV of Cincinnati, Ohio; twelve grandchildren; six great grandchildren and two on-the-way; extended family includes: Joan Fluker, Patricia Smith of Macon and Jeanne Clark, San Francisco, California.

Ed was a spiritual leader and good friend from many years ago. At one time he championed me for three plant manager jobs in the late seventies and I was grateful he had so much confidence in me, but that was the kind of man he was for everyone. Always a smile and quiet nod. Macon and middle Georgia have truly lost a great asset in more ways than one. My prayers go out to his family and friends.
