Macon, GA- Frank C. Amerson, Jr., died Friday, September 14, 2012, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia following a brief illness. Visitation will be on Monday, September 17, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Vineville United Methodist Church Christian Life Center. Funeral services and a Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at 3:00 P.M. at Vineville United Methodist Church with Dr. Marcus Tripp officiating, with remarks by Dr. Kirby Godsey. Private burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Frank C. (Duke) Amerson, IV, Adam Chandler Amerson, Ryan Amerson, Joshua Amerson, Cameron L. Dennard and Bradley L. Mullis. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be A. V. Elliott, Louis Philhower, Bob Dickey, Bill Snow, Earl Bowden, Melvin Kruger, Hunter Johnson, Tony Rojas, Buster Barry, Virgil Adams, Clifford Whitby and Gene Dunwody, Sr.
Mr. Amerson was born March 8, 1929 in Macon, Georgia to the late Mary Edna Kitchens Amerson and the late Frank C. Amerson, Sr. Mr. Amerson was a life-long resident of Macon, where he was educated in Bibb County Public Schools. He spent time in the Navy, serving on a fleet tanker in the Pacific at the end of World War II. Upon his return to Macon, he continued the family business as a professional general contractor and developer. Mr. Amerson served as a past director of the Georgia Branch of the Association of General Contractors of America.
In 1994, Mr. Amerson was appointed by then Governor Zell Miller to the state Board of Industry, Trade, and Tourism. Over the years, he served on the Board of Directors of multiple banks. He was a member of the Macon Civic Club, Idle Hour Country Club, and Vineville United Methodist Church.
Frank Amerson joined the Macon Water Authority in 1976, and his name has become synonymous with it ever since. His passion and life-long goal was to promote growth and development of Macon and Bibb County. The main road at the I-75 Business Park is named for Amerson, as well as Amerson River Park, formerly known as Amerson Water Works Park, and the water treatment plant. These are but a few of the accolades he received in recent years. In 2009, Mr. Amerson received the Chamber's Economic Development Lifetime Achievement Award. The Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce honored him with the prestigious 2012 Macon Citizen of the Year Award. His footprints are left throughout Georgia.
Mr. Amerson was an avid reader and life-long learner. He lived life to the fullest. It could be said that he "did it his way," but never without considering other view points; he always wanted what was best for the task at hand. Frank was a source of guidance and strength. He enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends, and will be greatly missed.
Mr. Frank C. Amerson Jr. is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Mary Jones Amerson; sons, F. Carl Amerson, III (Janice), and Steve Amerson; grandchildren, F.C. Frank Amerson was a true visionary and deal-maker both in business and where the city of Macon was concerned. From my humble viewpoint, Mr Frank possessed that unique, keenly intelligent businessman insight most communities yearn for, and will be sorely missed for years to come. May God bless Mary, Carl, Steve and family. I wil never forget this giant of a man.

When I was in my teens Frank would come by the house and talk with mama...and I was always glad to see him. His conversation was so honest and direct...a contrast to the usual talking around a subject I was used to...his talk always tickled me. But he was always kind to us..it was easy to see his caring. I will miss hearing his voice and seeing his presence...it was always a pleasure to be with him. Jack and Nani Freeman

Frank was a tough and unbending business man. I really liked that side of him because you always knew where he stood.
As president of city council He said to me following one of our long meetings "Dave, you are just like me--Except--I don't have any Tact"
That was a great compliment coming from Frank Amerson.
He wlll be missed.
