Stig and I remember Mrs. Fickling with such fondness.... I enjoyed working with her as her personal trainer, and admired her energy and enthusiasm for life and her love for her family. At 70, she was committed to her personal fitness and a talented skier! Such a delight to be around, I am thankful to have known her. Our deepest sympathy to the Fickling family.
There are times when the right words just don't exist, but at this sad time, I send my sincere sympathies to the Fickling family. I shall always remember my beautiful friend and classmate at LHS, Class of '50.
Janie, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. What a remarkable woman. Ann lally
Please accept our deepest sympathies in the loss of one so dear.
With Deepest Sympathy. From an old Lakeland high school friend (Class of 1949).
May G-d Bless and keep the Fickling Family with peace at this time.
I will never forget serving Neva at a table in the dining room at Wesleyan on my freshman year. She was a kind and beautiful being both indside and out. Condolences to her family.
Neva's mother always said to her,"Neva, pretty is as pretty does." My friend, some day we will be together again to sing and play the piano. May god hold each one in her family as they try to let her go. Time passing helps, but we'll all never forget the times we spent with her. Joan Selph Newton Lakeland,Fl.
Was sorry to receive an e-mail from a relative in Eatonton, GA, which told me about Neve Janes' passing. He also told me he had just seen the 2013 Farmers and Merchants Bank Calendar, in which there is a photo of her and myself. Eatonton had it's first Dairy Festival in 1953 and I was the Queen. On a light note, men were putting it on and they forgot a crown. When she said "I crown you Miss Dairy Queen", she handed me a very small loving cup. I wonder to this day, which little girl in the court gave up her cup.
Janie, Dan and Andrew
What an extraordinary woman your mother must have been. You were truly blessed. Our thoughts are with you while you honor her exceptional life.
I knew Neva Jane as a neighbor in Lakeland, Florida and as our church pianist at Webster Avenue Baptist Church. She was a great and well liked young lady when I knew her. I'm sure she will be missed by her family and friends.
for all the fickling family-may God hold you in the palm of his hand and be with mr. ficklng. She will be missed by most of Macon residents.
We are so sad to hear of Mrs. Fickling's
passing. Our prayers are with you.

Very sad to hear the news about Mrs. Fickling's passing- I was not lucky enough to have known this grand lady- Funny thing, today I was watching one of my favorite vintage game shows, What's My Line- Miss Langley, her name at the time, was the reigning Miss America- I was so touched by her grace, class and, of course beauty, that I wanted to see if she was in films, or, in musical theater- I would have loved to seen her performances, so I researched her name to see if there were any movies or shows I could see her in- So sad to find out she had passed away- Allow me in some small way to extend my sincerest condolences to all her family and friends- I can only imagine how much you all miss her- Sending prayers to her and all her loved ones-
Neva Jane was my babysitter in Lakeland and I have many wonderful memories of her from then. Later she had me for lunch at her home during a Macon visit. She also generously recommended my daughter Lisa for Wesleyan. She was unfailingly charming and truly a Southern lady. My thoughts and prayers are with her family in this difficult time.
My heartfelt condolences goes out to The Fickling family! Mrs. Fickling was such a wonderful person and so spiritually spirited. I have always been so in total awe of her and all that she displayed to world and what she inspired in others. Her work in charities and for human enrichment in Macon has always spoke volumes about who she was and about what she represented. Her character display was absolutely Peerless. I am honored to have met her. I will continue to keep your family in my prayers. Blessings to all of you!

Neva was such a special person in every way. She was in my Speech class and she worked so hard so she would do well in the public eye. Neva Jane was friendly, kind, beautiful, thoughtful, fun, caring, giving, gentle, talented, to mention a few word that describe her for me. She was a very special person in all of our lives. I am thankful she crossed my path.

With my sympathy and love to Neva Jane's family; as one of many Miss America volunteers for decades, we all have been blessed to be surrounded by the lovely ladies who have been honored to wear the Miss America crown. I always enjoyed being kept abreast of Neva Jane through friends from Athens, GA, and through the Miss America Organization. Neva Jane leaves us with a wonderful legacy and a challenge to keep the standards high for our program and to provide the young ladies who participate a wonderful experience that will sustain them with happy memories and lifelong friendships. I am honored to be a part of such an organization and dedicate my service in memory of our Miss America's who have passed away. Blessings to the family and I know you will be comforted by friends and family. With special thoughts and prayers,
Neva was a beautiful young girl. The Wesleyan Glee Club toured the SE in the spring of 1953 and she joined us in some musical preformances. She was always friendly and it was a pleasure to be with her. Her accomplishments were many, varied and community-oriented and I send my deepest sympathy to her loving family.
I will always remember Mrs. Fickling as being a very smart, gracious woman. May God bless all of the Fickling family at this time.
Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Fickling, my mother and father often spoke with great pride of the time when my father, Frank Russo, as a young Marine, had the honor of escorting her at one of the Miss America events. Having lost both my mother and father this year, I know the pain of losing a loved one and will keep the Fickling family in my thoughts and prayers especially through the holiday season.
DONNIE AND I SEND OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS TO ALL OF THE FICKLING FAMILY.MRS.FICKLING WAS A VERY SPECIAL LADY.MAY YOU ALWAYS HAVE YOUR MEMORIES.LOVE TO YOU ALL AND MAY GOD BLESS.

So sorry about your loss. I was a senior in high school when Neva came back to Lakeland, and being a photog student for the Lakeland H.S. I was lucky to have taken several close-ups of her. I have looked for them but haven't found them. If I find them I will post them.
Although I never knew her personally, she has inspired me for many years. I met her in 1989 while I reigned as "Miss Macon". Her encouraging words and beauty left me star struck, as I was looking at and speaking to a real "Miss America". I will never forget the impression she left on my young heart....one that will continue for the rest of my life as I have been striving to be a role model to my own daughters and other young women in the Miss America program. She will always be Georgia's Miss America.
Altho I've never had the Honor of meeting Neve Jane Fickling, I feel as tho the world has lost a Truely, Lovely Lady, That will be Greatly Missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
Dear Bill and family:
We send you our deepest sympathy and prayers. We will miss her glowing smile and kind hospitality.

I was sadden to have read that Ms. Flickin had passed on yesterday. Being the corporate driver, I had many opportunties to drive her to different functions, which I truly enjoyed. The trip was made enjoyable, because somewhere during the trip she would make a comment on something that would cause both of us to laugh. My prayers goes out to you and your family
I wish Miss Neva's family the best. She was certainly a special lady, loved by all.
There has never been anyone in my life that I have felt so enchanted by as Mrs. Fickling. She and Mr. Fickling profoundly affected my life by expanding my experiences through travel. My years at Charter are some of my fondest memories in my life, because of them. From New York to London to my beloved projects in Macon to the hospitals from Chicago to California, Texas, to Arizona etc.... the encouragement and trust they showed to me at such a young age as I look back is remarkable. She set the bar for excellence , graciousness, and beauty!on top of that she was charming and coy. I remember her sitting in a bar in New York and she took the piano over and started playing and singing. She was fun too!
My visit with her several months back was precious. I will never forget her hospitality, even then and her precious words of Mr. Fickling, 'I would have gotten sicker earlier if I had known how sweet he was going to be to me.' She was a one of a kind. I will never forget her and appreciate the kindness and opportunities given me by her and the family. She is irreplaceable, but then isn't that uniqueness what made her Miss America! Fondly written from the heart, Teresa
My prayers go up for the Fickling family. I know that she will be Greatly missed. May God give you Peace, Comfort and Strength during this time.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Neva...She was truly a beautiful lady full of love and grace. Fly with the angels...

I met her once as a child. We spoke several times through the years. She was very proud of her children. We are cousins. I am sorry I never got to really know her. The Family is very proud of her and her accompishments. My Grandmother , Meriabe Langley, used to tell me great stories of all the cousins growing up in Lakeland. Best wishes and loving thoughts to her family. Rick Langley

Such memories I still have of the caroling in our old Wesleyan neighborhood and finishing up at the Fickling house for cookies and hot chocolate. The impressions your mother and the other fine women of Wesleyan Woods have made me a better woman and I share some of the same traditions that your mother and others each gave the Wesleyan Woods "kids". Deidre Jones Nelson(Ben and Dana Jones Daughter)
The song is ended, but the melody lingers on.
God must be saying "well done, My good and faithful servant" as He welcomes home one of His most accomplished angels.
What a wonderful life Mrs. Fickling created for her family, friends, and even strangers by sharing her Christ-centered love. Her beautiful smile was always evidence of her delight, especially in her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Mrs. Fickling will be missed in many ways. She was passionate about her faith and her numerous opportunities to share talents and wisdom. She was compassionate, generous, and always gracious; certainly an outstanding Southern Lady.

Neva Jane and I started school in the first grade and graduated together, I spent many nights in her home and attended Sunday school and church with her and our families. She and I shared many Sunday Dinners at each others home and kept in touch through the years. I enjoyed some of her events in her home and ranch and meeting her wonderful family. What a blessing she was to many friends and loved ones. My heart goes out to Bill and all her family that she loved dearly.

To the Fickling Family. So sorry to hear of your loss. Neva was a true classic Southern Christian lady.
