I am so sorry to hear of his passing. My father Gus was so fond of your dad. I was visiting with Harry Goldgar in New Orleans a couple of weeks ago and he told me about the two of them and Joe Bernd driving to New York for the 1939 World's Fair and sleeping in the car in Manhattan! I remember him as a great storyteller--he and my dad loved to recount the Woolfolk murder case. Much love Smokey (Gus Kaufman, Jr.) for the Kaufmans.
I was an English student of Mr.Riley's in 1982. He was an excellant teacher !I have never forgotton his class and how much I learned.
Winkie, Your Dad is in a better place. His pain & suffering is gone. My thoughts & prayers are with you.
Mr. Riley was an excellent teacher. He taught me all I know but did not teach me all he knew about English composition.
He was a fine gentleman and a very fashionable dresser in 1966 and '67 !
So very sorry to read of the passing of an old friend. I have missed his visits with me at the deli, and his stories about life, war, politics, companion animals and more. Sending our sincere condolences to Tom's family, for the loss of this fine gentleman.
