My thoughts and prayers go out to all the friends and family. Mark will be truly missed. May all those in pain look to the grace of God for comfort.

To The Cotton Family:
Words really cannot express how I feel about the passing of my friend Lt. Mark Cotton. Wow is all I can say right now still in shock. This man was definitely A “man-man” type of guy. I met Mark a little over twenty-seven years ago when we joined the Macon Police November 1985 recruit class. He sat across from me and always made jokes about me doing so many push-ups because Pete Brown who was my partner would always be late coming to class. I had much love for this guy because he hardly complained about anything just laughed at you or said something silly. Loved to run and could really get down in those shorty-shorts. I will miss your smile Mark. On Sunday January 13th,God called for a special gate keeper to guard his throne and without notice he took you. Mark you did not have time to run because you had already run your last race the day before. Nor did you have time to call your SWAT Team because they were not assigned to this mission. I know that you will miss everybody and all of us will miss you too. Now rest my dear friend the heavenly skies need you more. I salute you now for doing a good job well served.

Sending my thoughts and prayers to Lt. Cotton's family and officers of the Macon Police Department. He was a model for all law enforcement officers and will be greatly missed. Someone is gonna have a really hard time filling this man's shoes. My deepest sympathy to all during your time of great sorrow.
