Wilma Nicholson

Alamo, GA- Wilma Arlene "Ms. Nick" Nicholson, age 78, entered into eternal rest on August 13, 2014, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, North Dakota after a brave battle with cancer.
Wilma was born December 28, 1935, in Frankfort, Indiana to Russell and Grace Bridges. On November 19, 1967, she married James R. Nicholson and traveled with him to several Air Force bases in locations such as Great Falls, Montana; Portsmouth, New Hampshire; and Memmingen, Germany. Wilma made each location her home, serving in the Wives Club during each tour. For the past 35 years she has made her home in Alamo, Georgia.
An avid and talented gardener, Wilma particularly loved gladiolus, day lilies, and purple irises. She was also an active member of Alamo First Baptist Church where she taught the 3-4 year old Sunday school class for many years and was a member of the church choir singing alto and often narrating the Christmas cantatas.
Survivors include: her husband of 46 years, James R. Nicholson of Alamo, Georgia; four children: Patty Kindig (Rick) of Bunker Hill, Indiana; Russell Kidwell (Barbara) of Alamo, Georgia; Alma Nicholson Malis (Greg) of New Orleans, Louisiana; and Karen Nicholson of Bismarck, North Dakota; four grandchildren: Melissa Cook, Carrie Baber, Hunter Scanson, and Taylor Scanson; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers: Bobby Bridges (Mary) of Wills Point, Texas; David Bridges (Paige) of Wills Point, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased family include: her parents, Russell and Grace Bridges; her mother and father-in-law, Louise and James F. Nicholson; her brother, Russell Bridges; and her sister, Barbara Pattison (Bridges).
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, North Dakota for their compassionate and outstanding care for Wilma and the family. Many thanks also to Eastgate Funeral Service of Bismarck and Towns Funeral Home of Alamo for making arrangements for Wilma to return to her home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials and donations be made to the
American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or to the Alamo First Baptist Church, PO Box 496, Alamo, GA 30411.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Towns Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Alamo First Baptist Church, Alamo, Georgia. Interment will follow at the Nicholson Family Cemetery.
