Just happened to see this today and am in shock! God Bless one of the nicest men I ever knew, so many years ago.
Condolences to the McFadden Family. A wonderful Priest, Bishop, and Irishman has been called Home. He will be missed, but never forgotten by all who knew him. One of STM's finest.
Rest In Peace and May the Light of Jesus Shine on You.
When I think of Bishop McFadden, the term actions speak louder than words comes to mind. He was truly a man of God and a man of action. He was out among the people, with the people for the people of the Diocese of Harrisburg. The good shepherd tending to his flock. I have enjoyed attending diocesan events and always came away more spiritually enriched from them.
He cared deeply about the sanctity of life from the moment of conception to natural death. He was never afraid to speak the truth especially on controversial issues. And he always ended every talk or homily with two things. You pray for me and I will pray for you. AND May Jesus Christ be praised, now and forever! Although he will be missed by many, I know that Bishop McFadden's prayers will remain ever with us as he sings with all the saints in heaven.
Go in peace, to meet our Lord.

Good and Faithful Servant to Our Lord, RIP+
I had the pleasure of listening to Bishop McFadden speak at my son's confirmation a few years back. What a wonderful and engaging man, a true disciple of Christ. Condolences to his family one can only imagine their loss.
May his soul rest in the Risen Lord.
I remember Joe when I was a college seminarian at St. Charles Seminary (Overbrook) in the early 1980's. As he served Cardinal Krol as Priest/Secretary, Joe always took the time and effort to reach out to me and offer me encouragement and perseverance. He had a gentle and humble soul who loved the Lord and His ministry. Requiescat in pace.
My brother Kenny knew Bishop McFadden from college and also worked at West Catholic and Cardinal O'Hara with him. I remember Kenny smiling when the "Bishop's" name was mentioned in a story. He was a good friend to Kenny and we were honored when Bishop McFadden said the funeral mass for my dear brother.
I find comfort knowing they are together now and sharing some funny stories.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
I was a teacher and administrator at West Catholic when a young man came to the school. First as a JV basketball coach when Billy Hoy came aboard as the varsity coach. Before long Joe took on coaching JV Baseball as well and when he graduated from St. Joes he became a teacher at the school. Within a couple of years he was both Athletic Director and varsity coach of his beloved basketball. He answered every need that came his way… as he did later when he entered the seminary and was ordained. He served and made all he encountered better people… and was outstanding in all he did. While he will be missed we are all better people for having encountered him on our own life journey.
What a Beautiful difference Joe's life made to all that have had the pleasure of having crossed life's path with such a wonderful and caring person of the Lord who made the differance in the many lives he touched.
To the Family hold close the most cherished memories of Joe a Great Man, Brother, Uncle and friend to all that were lucky to have had loved & respected such fine man of the church he loved.

I was very sadden by Bishop Mc Fadden's passing I remember him when I ran as an EMT with Marple Ambulance , and we had calls at
O Hara HS , he was always there with the patient consoling and comforting them upon our arrival. God rest his soul, you just never know. He was a good and holy priest.
You were an inspiration. Thank you for your service to the Catholic church. Heaven's Gate has opened it's arms to you, rest peacefully in the Lord's great love.
Joe you were a GREAT PRIEST AND TEACHER and FRIEND.
You taught me and many others at West Catholic. You will be missed.
You taught many spiritual lessons while you lived, and for one last time taught us one in the way you died. No one knows the hour when or the circumstances under which Christ will knock on our door. We simply must be ready when he summons us. Thank you for reinforcing that lesson.
The alumni of Cardinal OHARA, West Catholic and St. tommy More mourn one of their own.
May he rest in heavenly peace.
