Frieda M Worster
1933 – 2015
AUGUSTA – Frieda Worster of Augusta, formerly of Winthrop, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 23, 2015 in Augusta. She was born in Norwood, Mass. on March 6, 1933 to the late Amie and Douglas Johnston.
As a member of 'The Greatest Generation', Frieda first worked at the Woolworth Estate in Monmouth, Maine with her mother and father, where he was a blacksmith for the Woolworth's drove of racing and working horses. She was a graduate of Winthrop High School class of 1951.
Frieda met the love of her life, Fred Worster of Hallowell, on a 1950 summer class trip to Florida with a group of high school students. It's said Fred took one look at Frieda and quickly put her bags in the trunk of his car. Frieda thought this was an impolite move and refused to ride in Fred's car. However, over the 4000 mile trip, they fell in love and only the Korean War was able to keep them apart for any length of time. Frieda and Fred worked together several times during the early years of their marriage, including The Worster House and then operating Freddy's Restaurant in Hallowell. They raised a family of 3 boys and 1 girl in Winthrop, spending most of their growing years on High Street and enjoying Maranacook Lake. Frieda took a hiatus from the workforce to become a homemaker and raise their children. She made sure the family was packed and ready to go on camping, hunting, and fishing trips the family frequently made. As her youngest child approached High School graduation she returned to work. She retired from the State of Maine in 2009 after more than 30 years of service, with many awards and honors from the state and Governor.
Frieda was predeceased by her husband

Carla, Dennis, Dave and Dale,
I'm so very sorry to hear of your Mothers passing. She was a special lady and always made me feel part of the family. I recall so many times over the years when we would bump into each other in Walmart she would always make a point to update me on all the most recent news in your lives. She was so very proud of all of you and your accomplishments. She touched many lives and we are the lucky ones to have known her, to have shared some time with her. My thoughts are with all of you and your families during this most difficult time.

Carla, David & Dale, I'm so sorry for your loss. Your Mom was a dear friend to my Mom. She sure loved to chat on the phone. My sisters & I would take that opportunity to misbehave when they were chatting! She is fondly remembered. She & Mom are friends again. RIP Freda. Thoughts & prayers. Love Dawn
