Richard Anthony Lutz
1932 - 2017
WATERVILLE - Richard Anthony Lutz, 84, of Waterville, died peacefully on March 14, 2017, at Oak Grove Center, Waterville, with his loving family at his side. He was born in Pawtucket, RI, on Nov. 2, 1932, a son of John and Stella (Stanish) Lutz.
He was educated in Pawtucket schools and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, as a Police Officer for the Pawtucket Police Department and as an Agent for the US Border Patrol. He was a member of Waterville American Legion Post and Waterville Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Richard is survived by his wife, Sheila of Waterville; one son, Timothy Lutz, Sr. and wife Debra of Johnston , RI, three daughters, Teresa Carter and husband, Ralph of Austin Texas, Eileen McGee and husband, Kevin of Manassas, Va. and Donna Zebiak and husband Andrew of Fairfield; two brothers, Thomas Lutz and wife Mary of Georgia and Gordon Araujo and wife Bernadette of Florida; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of the Oak Grove Center, and those from MaineGeneral Hospice for the exceptional care given to Richard in his final days. The family would like to give a very special thank you to Mark Smedberg for his many visits and heartfelt words of comfort.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Notre Dame Catholic Church 116 Silver St., Waterville.
Burial will be private at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mount Vernon Rd, Augusta. Arrangements are under the care of Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. An online guestbook may be signed and condolences expressed at www.gallantfh.com.
