FARMINGTON FALLS -- Hilda Ruth Howe, 36, of Farmington Falls, was killed in a tragic SUV crash on Feb. 6, 2013, in Vienna.
Hilda was born in Strong on Nov. 7, 1976. She was raised on a family farm in Kingfield. She carried the love of animals and the Earth she learned as a young child throughout her life. She graduated from Kents Hill School with high honors and received the Rhode Island School of Design's Art Award. She went on to Southern Virginia College in Buena Vista, Va., where she studied dressage and horsemanship. She returned to Maine and later attended the University Maine at Augusta as a science major.
Hilda was known by all for her gorgeous smile and big blue sparkling eyes. She was so radiant, her face could light up a room. H2, as she loved to be called, had a brilliant mind for both the animal and plant kingdom. She could do anything -- from historic restoration of old houses, to making quilts, to training horses. It was mind-boggling how much she knew. In 2004, she suffered from adult respiratory distress syndrome and was in a coma for 17 days, which resulted in a brain injury. She had to learn everything all over again, including eating, walking and talking. Things were not always easy for Hilda after her illness, but her tenacity, courage and deep, deep love for her children carried her through the toughest times. She never lost her sense of humor and was always quick-witted and just plain hysterical. Anybody who knew her can easily recall some time when Hilda cracked them up with some funny tale or comment.
She was devoutly compassionate about animals and truly believed they should have domain over the planet. She rescued just about any creature with four legs and shared many wonderful pets with her young family. Hilda was very skilled in dressage and could tell you everything about a horse and animal husbandry. She was a great teacher on many levels.
Hilda never stopped doing art and worked in all mediums, depending on what she wanted to make. She has painted murals in Mount Vernon, no doubt inspired by the Rufus Porter murals that adorned the walls of the home she shared with Tim Seamon and their two children, Tyler and Edward, in Farmington Falls. She was so proud to have preserved those walls with their beauty and historic significance when the home was being renovated and restored. The Rufus Porter Museum even came and documented the work. She loved her home and adored her children, always wanting the best for her boys. We were all lucky to have known her.
Hilda was predeceased by her brother, Elijah R. Howe; and her horse, Sissy. She is survived by her three sons, Eric, 16, Tyler, 13, and Edward, 21 months; her mother, Roylynn Hamblet, of Vienna; her father, Eric Howe, of New Vineyard, and his partner, Jennifer Rice; her sisters, Clara Howe (and her son Elijah) of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Dorothy Howe (and her son Reuben) of Greene; her grandmother, Marcia Doherty, of Fairfield; her maternal aunts, Jackie Berlandi, and husband, Peter, of Plymouth, Mass., Marcia Maheu, of Waterville, and Gayle Roy and husband, Ken, of Rosemount, Minn.; and her uncle, Michael Hamblet, of Knox, and his partner, Carol Wentworth; her paternal aunt, Pamela Howe, and husband, Pete Nichols, of New Vineyard; and her uncle, William Howe, and wife, Marilyn, of Kingfield. Hilda had a whole slew of cousins and extended family, but was particularly tight in her younger days with her cousins Josh and Erin. She is also survived by her longtime boyfriend, Timothy Seamon, and his parents, Gail and Gary Seamon, of Vienna, and other family from Mount Vernon, Starks and New York. Hilda also left behind her horse, Eclipse, and her dog, Teddy.
In remembrance of Hilda's incredible life, donations can be made in her name to your local Domestic Violence Project or to Double B Horse Rescue, 997 West Mills Road, Industry, ME 04938.
A burial service will be at 1 p.m. May 19 at the Howe Family Cemetery in Kingfield.

Hilda was my best friend at Kent's Hill- we shared our love for horses and always brought the best out in each other. I will never forget her smile and contagious laughter . We hadn't seen each other for many years before her passing and I would do anything to turn back time to change that! Sweet Hilda, you are missed so very much , even though your earthly work is done, please watch over me and the ones that love you so very much ! Goodbyes like this should never ever happen, so I will say," until we meet again". Please rest peacefully and keep us all out of mischief !!! I love and miss you tons!

I met Hilda and saw her only one time afterward when I acquired my wonderful Bengal cat Pumbah from her. I was really saddened by her untimely death. I knew little about her except for her love of animals, but I've thought about her a lot every time I look at this beautiful cat. My prayers and condolences to the family.

Hilda will be sadly missed. She definetly lit up a room... Her upbeat personality and beautiful smile. She was always so kind hearted and giving. So sad that she had to be taken away so young. Her children are in my thoughts and prayers as they are going to miss out on growing up without their mom. So Sad.
