Elizabeth McQuilkin Obituary

In Thanksgiving for the Life of
Elizabeth Erma (Meader)
McQuilkin, 90
1922 - 2013
SACO -- Elizabeth E. McQuilkin, 90, passed away on Jan. 29, 2013, at Seal Rock Healthcare in Saco.
She was born on April 28, 1922, in Solon to Harry and Effie (Henderson) Meader. Elizabeth was the fifth of six children who enjoyed the hard work and fun of life on the farm. She graduated from Solon High School in the class of 1940, and Skowhegan Commercial School in 1942, after which she worked for W.H. Hinman.
Elizabeth was a supportive wife, loving mother, and hard-working homemaker who often held down the fort while her husband, Norman, worked out of town. She was good-natured, spunky, and always saw the best in everyone. She loved playing cards, fishing, camping, and Red Sox baseball. Her recipe for delicious rolls, always made with loving care, will be enjoyed for generations to come.
Upon the death of her husband Norman, Elizabeth moved in with her daughter Norma and husband, George, with whom she lived for 12 years. Eight of those years were spent in Hampden where she enjoyed cooking hot, hearty meals with freshly baked desserts. While their new home was being built in Saco, Norma, George and Liz enjoyed living with her granddaughter Angela and her family for nearly a year in Scarborough. Liz then lived in Saco with George and Norma for three years where she engaged in many special activities with her five great-grandchildren. In 2008, Liz moved to Seal Rock Healthcare Facility, located just a block away from home.
Liz is survived by her daughter, Norma Gorham; granddaughters, Amy Roberts and husband Brian and Angela Galeucia and husband Mike; exchange student 'granddaughter,' Marta Gispert; five loving great-grandchildren, Hannah, Lindsey, Nick, Owen, and Theo; two special sisters- in-law, Arlene Meader and Shirley Harrington; nephews, Dick Meader and wife Betty-Jane, Bob Meader and wife Pam, Bruce Meader and partner Joe DiLorenzo, Don Meader and wife Melissa, Paul Savage and wife Francis; McQuilkin nieces and nephews; supportive cousins; the Price family; and many other friends. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Norman E. McQuilkin; her son-in-law, George Gorham; her sisters, Damie Savage, Clara Miller and Amy Robinson, and brothers, Earl and Everett Meader.
The family expresses sincere appreciation to the staff at Seal Rock Healthcare for the outstanding care and compassion they provided to Liz.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at the First Parish Congregational Church UCC, 12 Beach St., Saco.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to the First Parish Church Calling Committee who considered Liz
