I knew of Jim Holsouser and saw him around Boone often during our school days. His father was a stellar and well known trial lawyer who became a judge. I visited Jim at his law office shortly before I left for law school at Chapel Hill. We briefly spoke of the possibility I might someday join him in his law practice. He was positive and very encouraging. Of course, things worked out differently, with his becoming governor and my moving to Georgia and practicing law here. I have always felt pride in knowing him a little, and have always had great respect for him. Rest in peace, Governor.
