Colleen (or Aunty Colleen as she was called when I was growing up) was a very influential figure in my mother's life. Whenever she would talk about Colleen, it was like an extra special light had been sparked that I never saw with any other topic. I saw Colleen many times as a child, and she would bring me special foods from Australia as souvenirs. Unfortunately since her move to Napier, I only saw her around three times, but as I was much older, I could appreciate her so much more. When I stayed at Stuart and Helen's house for my cousin's wedding, she taught me a very useful trick for getting to sleep that, even now, I will never forget. Every time I use it, I think of her. While she never had the influence over my life that she had on my mother's, from my limited experience, I believe we all had a miniature blessing in every situation that she was a part of. Thank you, Aunty Colleen, for making the world a brighter place. I will be thinking of you and trying to emulate the kindness you showed to me.
