Marcel Albert Bathalon, 58, of Irasburg died April 11, 2009 in Philadelphia, PA after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 28, 1950 in Burlington a son of Ernest and Jeanne (Rondeau) Bathalon. Marcel graduated from Sacred Heart High School in the class of 1969 and he was currently employed at Ethan Allen MFG in Orleans. On September 10, 1977 he married Diane Brasseur who survives him. He held membership with the Knights of Columbus Council #2285 of Newport. He is survived by his wife Diane Bathalon of Irasburg, four children: Dana E. Bathalon and his wife Sarah of Coventry, Rene Y. Bathalon and his wife Ann of Irasburg, Christine-Anne S. Bathalon and her fiancé Travis Degre of Jay, and Christopher J. Bathalon of Irasburg, a cherished granddaughter Makyla and by the following brothers and sisters: Lucien Bathalon and his wife Jane of Derby, Raymond Bathalon and his wife Lillian of Troy, Jean Bathalon and his wife Yvette of Irasburg, Richard Bathalon and his wife Beth of Cabot, Pierre Bathalon and his friend Jean of Johnson, Jacque Bathalon and his wife Karen of Coventry, Guy Bathalon and his wife Aline of Derby, Denis Bathalon and his wife Betsy of Newport, Robert Bathalon and his wife Joanne of Westfield, and Bernard Bathalon and his wife Tammy of Westfield and by numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 5-9 P.M. on Friday April 17,2009 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road, Newport. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday April 18, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newport with the Rev. Yvon Royer celebrating a mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Vermont Division,Inc, 121 Connor Way, Suite 240, Williston,Vt 05495. Members of the Knights of Columbus #2285 are requested to meet at the funeral home on Friday evening April 17, 2009 for prayers. Dear Diane and family, the news of Marcel’s cancer and now his passing is difficult to comprehend. I heard of his cancer diagnosis before deploying and have asked Mom for weekly updates when I called home. My family opted to tell me Monday rather than Sunday when we did a video call – they were right to wait as I would have stopped talking. Today, I found Marcel’s obituary on the internet.
